Bought and installed the jackseat thinking it would ideal for my gf. Its not!! She is 5'10" and she cant reach the handlebars!! She has to hang on to me which is uncomfortable and unsafe. Also its pretty scary sitting that high up going through twists and turns on trails, i tried it once forget about it!!

She tried sitting behind me and said it was more comfortable, i was even comfortable and could ride fairly aggressively.

I was wondering if its possible to install a backrest and use the track for the jack seat to mount it on?? Has anyone tried this?

thanks

What year is your Apex ? I have been waiting for mine since I purchased my XTX in Nov. Would it be safe , usable for a child 10yrs old ? Pics ???

I wouldnt recommend it for a child. there is nothing to grab on to.

Better to put the child in front of you.

Bought my seat jack for my 2005RX1, modified with extension brackets for my 2006, and just re-engineered for my 2011. Sat up there for testing purposes only(wouldn't be caught dead riding shotgun) and handles are where they should be. Did they modify the design for 2011? Is your sled a 2011??? My wife is much shorter than your gf but her arms should be longer and still be able to reach. Bye the way, lost my driveshaft in Mount Laurier on my SRX years ago and had to ride double on a buddies Viper for 200kms, did we ever look cool all geared out in Yamaha jackets, sled comunicators and riding a shorty with me sitting on the trunk, LaLaLa OUCH! Shoulda called a cab! :drink:

I have a Jackseat on the 03 RX-1 and would say that for small kids it's okay but I found that for adults it puts your center of gravity a little too high to feel comfortable. I have a 'Rider Hold-Tight' harness that passengers tend to like better than holding onto low bars. This thing straps around the driver and has grips that the passenger can hold onto. You can put the grips on your back, or turn them to the front so that they have to 'hug' you to hold on. It gives the driver a little more confidence too because you can feel when the passenger is not leaning properly or is in trouble.

Coulda used that Rider Hold-Tight thing on my ride back from Mt Laurier! Yes the passanger is very high and changes the COG but if your passanger is a keener, leans hard with you all is well. Cornering with my wife, if I look over my shoulder, her head is almost as low as my hips, she bearly slows me down! ;):D I have had a lazy passanger and it can be scarey if you don't adjust your driving.

i also have a seat jack for my 06 apex gt.

the mounting hardware did not fit. it would slam against the bumper rebar. i had to do some grinding to get that on.

after that b.s the seat handles are so far down that the passenger can not reach to hang on.

if i could get a refund, i would.

Is it just me or is this post making no sense. Why would she want to reach the handlebars sitting on the rear of the sled and why would she be sitting in front of you........

Its just you! He means the hadngrip bars on the seat jack. My wife found them to be a little low as well. They should be 2 to 4 inches higher IMHO!

A ten year old should be able to ride behind you with no problem!

My dealer is saying it's still on Backorder . Something about Jackseat changing a few things for the new Apex . Can anyone confirm this seat is backordered ?

Thanks for the info ! It sounds like some modifications might be in order :exc:

i also have a seat jack, I only keep it in case I ride a nefew or niece with me , its no good 4 an adult and child should at least 10, younger child has 2 be in front of u , I got mine 4 my gf 2 ride with me one year.... bought her a phazer the next, 2 up on a 121inch track ...no good, buy ur gf a sled and save on the wear and tear cost, my 2 cents
