I am looking at getting a new sled this year and have pretty much narrowed it down to these sleds. I bought the misses a new leftover 06 Nytro and I really like the looks of it. So aesthetically I really like the RTX but I also prefer the 136" track. What would I be losing by extending a 121 over a stock 136? Any input is greatly appreciated.

You'd be losing suspension durability and a track tension that is consistent throughout the whole travel.

Can you replace an entire 121 skid with a 136 instead of just putting extensions on a 121?

Yes, it can be done that way. Get a hold of a 136 skid, rear tunnel brackets (The upper wheels are located farther back in the 136 requiring a different bracket), track, tunnel extension and a rear heat exchanger. Adding all these things will make it a true 136 machine.
A guy from Mass. bought the 136 skid, Ohlins elec. shock, brackets and track from my parted out Attak GT last winter. He converted an 06 RTX.

I'm that guy from MA. I have an 06/07 attack rtx or an apex 136!! im not shure what to call it, but I love it!!
If I were to start over I would of just bought an attack.

Mike,
Would you just go with the Attak to avoid the labor or do you have other reasons? Did you put the Ohlins skid on it?

Yes I would go with the attak because is it cheaper than converting the apex. Im installing the attak top gear right now to complete the transformation.
and yes I am running the ohlins ec shock. I don't have many miles on the electric shock but, ohlins have served me well in the past. If you do go with the electric shock just make sure the wire is routed properly to prevent it from breaking.
hopes this helps with your decision!
I also noticed that nobody mentioned that you will also need a tunnel extention for the apex if you strech it.

good point. I was debating on the Ohlins or not. I agree it would be easier just changing some cosmetics on an Attak then major re constructive surgery on an RTX. Maybe a black Attak GT is the foundation to start with. Throw on some yellow suspension arms, change the graphics, and change to yellow exhaust covers and there ya have it. I cant find prices on these parts on the net. I guess I will just have to call the dealer.

One other option to consider if you want to start with a '07 or '08 RTX and like the Pro-Active CK torsion spring skid from these sleds but want to go with a 136":
I used a '07 RTX skid and lengthed it to a 136" and had some custom rails made. There's a company (Ice Age Mfg.) in Roseau, MN that makes custom rails. The rails I had made use the stock rear axle that allow me to use 8" wheels. I also swapped out both shocks with some Ohlins shocks and am running titanium springs.
By just having some rails made you could bolt up the rest of the suspension to the new rails and have a true 136" skid. By using essentially the stock skid you don't have to change the mounting holes and mounting plates in the tunnel like you would have to do if you were to mount a completly different skid. Add a tunnel extension and you're good to go.

i really like my 07'RTX and would love to lengthen it to 136 as well i have rode attak and my RTX and i prefer the pro-active ck skid over the mono skid. it suits my riding type more than the mono would.

Good to hear that you were able to get some seat time last season with your converted RTX Mike! Not to hijack the thread, but it's just nice to know that some of my salvaged parts are in good use.
All the shocks from my new 07 Attak GT are at Hygear as we speak having their "Trail pro" upgrade done to them. I'll be atop an improved GT for this season! ... Can't wait!

Do you mean like this?? Search my posts and you will see the cost! I havent changed out the hyfax with longer ones, but when I do most average joe wont even notice its been lengthened.
