Sled calls for 0w30, but oil debate threads are like ski/carbide threads.

0w30 semi synthetic yamalube is what the dealer will reccomend. if he has around or over 5000 miles i reccomend the 0w40 full synthetic as it starts easyer in very cold conditions. i use the 0w40 in all my apex's and rx sleds.

Although I believe the 0W40 full synthetic is a better Yamalube oil than the 0W30, the semi-synthetic must be acceptable to Yamaha considering all of their oil change kits include it.

Yes, even the semi-syn is a much higher grade oil than the spec in your owner’s manual calls for. I run 0w40 full syn, and have for likely 40k over all the years I’ve been using it.

Exactly. Yamaha makes an 0w30 Semi Syn and Ow40 Full Syn for 4 cylinder sled kit. So even Yamaha feels either is appropriate for the Apex.

Good to know as I just thought Yamaha only made the oil change kits using the 0W30 oil as that was all I ever saw at any of the Yamaha dealers I visited. Therefore, I was just purchasing the 0W40 by the case and using Napa Gold 1358 oil filters for my two Apex's and RX-1.
