Apex overheat, is it toast?

Just how hot on a gauge would be considered ok b4 definite damage occurs? I have a gauge from Ulmer, but there are times I have seen it go to 205-210 in very poor conditions. Like to know how hot I could let it go.

As long as you have coolant you'll know when it's too hot because the temp light will come. I know this has been discussed but I think the light comes on at 210.

When you loose your coolant you really run the risk of over heating even with shut down protection. The temp sending unit (thermo sensor) receives its temperature reading from direct contact with the coolant, if you have no or low coolant to where the sending unit is not in contact with the coolant the engine can reach an extremely high temp before enough heat reaches the sending unit to get a reading. Without direct contact with the coolant the sending unit is surrounded by nothing but air. Steam and excessive heat will form in the cooling system and eventually reach the sending unit but only after the engine has reached a temp dangerous to your engine. When an engine reaches temperatures in excess of 210°F you run the risk of warping the aluminum and or damaging the head gasket. Cast iron blocks and heads can withstand much higher temp’s before damage occurs but the Genesis 150 is Aluminum. IMHO you might have done some damage to your engine, good luck.
