Good responses so far. Ice scratchers seem like the solution on rock solid trails, helps hyfax too.. I've been meaning to get some. Short of that, here are a couple of work arounds.
Let the guy in your group with studs lead. He'll break up the hard trail. Follow in his tracks.
While you are waiting with a hot sled, throw some snow on the running boards. that helps with engine cooling , but not so much for hyfax.

i was over heating a few weeks back to
how hard is it to change the fluid in these? (any tricks)
heard an air bubble can be a real pain.

This what would happen with my Warrior. When it was really cold a snow/ice dam would form up on the tunnel and block fresh snow from hitting the front exchanger and the sled would overheat.

If you install scratchers, don't forget to lift them before backing up! ;-)
