Lets the games begin: Spring project started: 3500 miles
List of PM activities:
1. Repack hauck exhaust
2. Check suspension;
a. A few bogie wheels need replacing, Slydogs
b. Add bigboy spring, sending shock to Fix powersports
c. lube all points
3. Change driveshaft bearing, lubed a few times i.e. the past seasons, easy access with suspension out, will change
4. Check Y pipes and gaskets; gaskets need replacing-worn with a little life left- caught early with no issues to the Y pipes, thank god.
5. The obvious PMs; all oils- engine and chain
Need assistance with Steering column!!!!! I have a loose steering column with a lot of play, anyone have any idea how to tighten the steering. Looked around but not sure where to start. I will check with my dealer but though I would ask on ty first.
See pics below.

Hi. You need to swap out items 18 (x6) 11, 27,28 to get rid of the steering slop. When I changed mine, I ended up removing both steering colums in order to get at the rod ends (27,28). Remove the riser and bars.You will have to loosen the oil tank ( to slip column past ). Removing the secondary also helps. When reassembling grease up those bushings well.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. I can see items 27 & 28 have some impact to the problem but not 18. The turning radius is loose not back and forth. Also what about shortening 26(steering rods) to tighten. That seems to be were issue is, not 100%.
Thoughts?
Much appreciated,
KI

18 definitely has less of an impact on the problem as the rod ends, however at 2 bucks each, it's worth a change out if you will be dismantling the steering. My first thought was to shorten the steering rod, so i tried it without any luck. The slack was still heavy, and the rod could only be adjusted very slightly before the bars get out of alignment. The other thing about the whole disassembly was that i did not have a proper tool to remove those rod ends while on the chassis. so if you have the proper size ball joint separator you might get away with just swapping those out and see what the outcome is.
