I currently ride a 05 RX1 and a 09 Nytro mtx my rx1 is streched to 136 and i like it but am looking at a 07 Apex MTX - i ride mostly lake in northern Minnesota and Canada with i lttle trail how does this sled with the long track work ? Is it to long ? how do they handle on trail ? the nytro is okay but it also handles better than the rx1 - sort of hoping to stay in a chassis that has some wind protection and upgrade the RX1

Apex MTX

On hard pack trail surfaces the MTX is not the machine to be on. Unless the majority of your riding is in ungroomed, off trail, deep snow I would consider a shorter track. The machine is in the "zone" when pointed up the side of a mountain! On the trail it is just out of it's element.

I run my 08 Apex MTX SC with a 1.5" track that's cut down. I only ride it in the UP a lot more off trail then on. It rides ok on trail but a lot of work.

My buddy rides the same sled your looking at on the trails around Kapuskaisng, ON. It's definitely more work on the trails but when you go off trail or lake/ river running you don't have any issues. The only thing is with the 2 " lug his track is getting chewed up from the trails. And the hyfax seems to wear fairly fast. We installed the Yamaha ice scratchers and this helped a ton with the hyfax wear. I run a 151 RX1 on the trails and have no issues.

That's a really long track for trail riding. How much off trail/ deep snow riding do you do? At very lest you want to cut lugs down to inch and a quarter length.

Thanks for the input but i purchased it as i do more lake running than trail - i just hope that when end of feb comes round i can still find snow and not end season early. i ran a two inch on my rx1 for a year and liked it but tore every lug of rt side later in year and installed a 1.5 ripsaw that worked good to but only got the year out of it also and it blew a large piece out - cross country and hills are hard on tracks i guess
