My search did not yield any certain answers on this one, so I thought I would throw it out for those that have done this:
I recently purchased a 2012 Apex XTX. I am used to a more upright riding position on my Cat Procross turbo, so I want to maintain those ergonomics. Going to do the WRP 2" seat mod.
Anyone know what the maximum handlebar riser you can do on one of these without changing out throttle cable and brake lines?? I want get as much as I can, but keep it as simple as possible.

2"-3" with a throttle cable re-route. I say 2-3 as I put in the Powermadd 2.5" pivot riser on my Apex GT.
It worked great, easy install and the throttle cable re-route under the bar, rather than over, was cake. For me being 6'2", it really allowed me to handle it better in the ditches, and stand more upright.
I just pulled it off yesterday, as I wanted to put in on my '12 XTX. Jury is still out on whether I will do it yet though. I have not had to stand as much since the XTX is a rockstar in the bumps. I suppose that will change early next season when we do more ditch riding as the season fires up. I do love the taller seat on the XTX over my GT. you are taking it higher?
If I do put it on, I will probably invest in some good handguards though. Once your hands are up there, they are exposed a bit more than the stock location.
Good luck!

2.5" is max from what I can see. I just ordered a MTN Apex riser which is 2" higher than the XTX. My WRP seat will be here this week.

Thanks for the feedback. You are correct, going 2" higher over stock on my XTX seat. If you are 6"2" (me as well), you may want to think about that. Right now on ebay, you can get the full WRP 2" kit for about $200. When you get used to your legs being in more of an attack position, it is really hard to ever go back to the old sit-down style. Right now my XTX feels like old school sit-down compared to my Turbo Cat.
Did you do anything else to your XTX to make it ride better? Seriously considering the Star mod over the Summer as well. Come next season, I want it already set up and just want to ride. I spent more time wrenching on my Turbo cat this last season than riding, but that is another story. Most of that was self inflicted as I went a bit crazy on mods and updates. I love Yamaha, but not so drunk on the Blue Koolaide that I cannot see the benefits of other & more modern designs. With all that being said, I bought a New XTX at the end of this season. A proven design and awesome motor that just simply works!

I was in the same boat. I just bought my '12 XTX the last week of February. So I only have 700 miles on it so far.
My '07 GT is still rock solid, but wanted EPS, taller seat, and Warranty. Coming from the stock GT, this seat is fantastic for me. So I don't see myself going any higher for now.
So far I have added Deuce bars to the stock skis, and nothing else. I may play with the transfer and front skid shock to keep the skis planted. Being 240lbs, the shocks are stiff, but actually work well for a big guy as others have pointed out. I have to really tag it hard to get it to bottom out.
I have a new HID kit from Rock to install tonight. I pulled my riser, but may wait on that for handguards. I may find some good handguards with mirrors at Haydays in the fall. I do want to find a skidplate too.
Other than the cosmetic stuff, I don't see myself changing much. I am even holding off on studs till I get a feel for this big track in more conditions. So far, I have liked it in fluff, slush, powder. I had not seen too much icy conditions to scare me, but I'm sure it will come. Then I will start stud shopping again.
There are plenty of risers on the market. The Mountain riser and the pivot risers are the cheapest and still look stock when done. If you can't find the Mountain riser/bolts, the powermadd pivot can be purchased for around $75 or $50 used. The universal pivot is narrow and will work on most sleds. Or get the Yamaha specific one. If you don't, you will have an ornament for your shelf like I do. I bought a second one, and didn't specify. It's too wide to work on the Yamaha riser.

Well, I'll disagree with being able to go only 2" higher. Both my Attak and my 11 Apex XTX are 5" over, using stock everything. I'd be willing to take some pictures if everyone would like to see it. At the TY Demo ride the rep from Yamaha rode my sled all day, and didn't believe me either lol. My WRP seat will be here Wednesday, scored the 209.00 shipped deal on EBay. They're back to 300.00 as of yesterday....SWEET! I am using a Lake. Effect riser on the XTX and a soon to be changed Rox adjustable on the Attak. Around 6,000 mi. On the Attak and over 4,000 mi. On the Apex. Very comfortable height for me at 6'3". Never see TORS on either of them and everything works.

i have a +3 lake effect on my 2011. there are times i wish for a +4 but the +3 is right for over 90% of my riding. i have ridden viperdave's +5 and yes it does fit on stock cables but it made me feel tiny at the time.

WOW, 5" over stock. That is amazing and glad to hear it can be done as I really want an adjustable riser on my new XTX.
It's always been a given on here that 3" was max. Do you think they changed the cable length at the factory in the newer models? My '07 GT was tight even with the re-route.
I guess if that was the case, then the Attak would not have been able to do it.
So is there an affordable adjustable riser out there? Spending hundreds of dollars is just crazy. But it is nice to be able to lower it on the long groomer days.
Thanks guys!

I thought the same thing when I did the Attak. Set them at 5" and never lowered them. I've gotten a few rude comments, but I DONT care! I've set my XTX up the same way because it works for me. I learned the routing with trial and error on the Attak and just duplicated it on the XTX. The Attak looks cobbled up with the Rox stacked on the stock riser. The Lake Effect riser is very clean and WAY sturdy. I'll try an get some decent pics ASAP.

Just curious...is your 5 " riser a pivot riser rolled forward?

I went only with 2" on top of the stockers with my wrp seat mod. Perfect for sitting but I could use another inch or two (couldn't we all lol) for standing straighter when trails get beat.

Yes, the riser is a pivoting style and is slightly forward. Brake line is removed from its brackets and routed with very few bends. Park brake cable the same. Alll wiring was sufficiently long enough that once neatend up, reaches the bars easily. Throttle cable is removed from the hoop and routed under the bars. I believe that my usual throttle position, rolled down, also accounts for the ability of this setup to work. Once setup this way, my throttle cable is the only thing that isn't in the hoop or flexible cable wrap. Everything pivots smoothly with no issues.

Great info Dave! It looks like a +4" is the way to go for me. Lake effect 1 piece is the way to go?

Might be me, but I can't find the kit for $200 for the apex. $299?bix96 said:Thanks for the feedback. You are correct, going 2" higher over stock on my XTX seat.
