I was down to my local river the other day watching all the new sleds run one another down and watch the Apex beat most everything there. I did notice when it went up against the new Rev it lost in the shot off the line but shortly caught up. It tops out higher than the 800 does which is always good for braging rights. But what about fuel economy? Is Yamaha going to build somthing to beat this 2003 sled. Yes I know that team yellow has made great impovments to the revs in recent years, like lowering the nose and SDI. So right now as it stands The rev is lighter, Gets more miles to a tank than a Apex, has a faster holeshot, Handles as good in some opinions better but thats opinion, is cheaper to buy, and has a better warrenty. Dont get me wrong I am team blue all the way. But facts are facts.
I've been wating for a sled to beat the Rev in most of these catigories coming from Yamaha since the 05 RX1. And I am sad to say Yamaha is not doing it with the Apex. This is my last season holding off if they dont come out with a 140hp sled under 500lbs im going to team yellow. I'd never thought I would say such a thing, but im tired of geting nailed to the wall buy a Rev, the old V-Max just cant compete and I am not spenting 16 grand in somthing that looses in most of these catigories. :ORC

A close friend has a 03 800 Doo and it is not even close to my Apex in gas mliage( rev 10 Apex 15), Out of the Hole or top end. It may corner slightly better in some opinion's.The new REV's may be better in some area's than the 03's but the total package is what you need to look at and the Apex is a way better value per $$$$$$ spent . AND THAT IS MY OPINION.
Just spend some time on both and you will be sold just like all the rest of us. Apex all the way!!!!!!!! kviper :4STroke:

03 800,s are horrible on fuel. The 05/06 Power tek,s are as good or better then the Apex/attaks. I ride with allmost all 800 powerteks & mach Z,s. The mach Z runs hard but has major ECU issues & flashing lights with low rpm,s all the time. The 800 pt,s have major engine issues...still. Rods tend to snap in 1/2 & buzz right thru the cases. The pt,s are light years faster then the 03 800 doo,s . power tek vs apex is an amzingly close race with both sleds being in an equal state of tune.

hole shot is 90% set up! Two identical sleds set up differently will be vastly different in the holeshot. (studding, weight transfer set up, clutching, rider weight etc. etc.) A set up 440 with pics will beat an 800 on ice with trail studs every time.

APEX VERSE REV

I ride daily with a 800x 06, 600x 05. First, Apex beats the rev's top end, mid throttle, and on fuel mileage. I save about $3.00 per tank vers the rev with No oil!
The rev is a great sled, lighter and more agile for sure IMO. In the big whoops the rev beats the Apex, but as a high mile trail sled the Apex wins. I guess it's hard to have everything in a single package, but the Rev and Apex do almost that depending on which type of riding you do!
And a 800x is $11,000 and a 600x is $10,000. My RTX was $9,000!!!!!!! I wish I could afford both ;)!

What I ment by 03 was that was the first year of the rev platform but I was comparing the 06 modles with each other. Forget about the fuel econmy of the 03 rev. Im comparing new sleds thats what Im interested in.

There are way more guy's going from Doo to Yamaha than from Yamaha to Doo. Why do you think that is? kviper

I want to know which sled costs $16,000. At the current exchange rate that's still much more than any sled I've known Yamaha to come out with.

My question is who cares about gas mileage anyway. It's not like these things have 40 gal tanks or anything. With the oil your gonna spend on the 2 stroke the apex is still way cheaper to operate than the doo.

Its not so much mileage as range to me, well I like the bragging rights too. I used to be the one who was always telling everyone that I needed fuel. It’s nice to pull up on 1/2 a tank because someone else needed fuel first. I want that 20 they kept telling me I would get!

Vector.

The advertisements if I remember correctly did not specify which four stroke would get 20 mpg
