Hey guys. I have an 06 apex. I started it the other day and it ran perfectly fine. Today I went out and tried to start it and it ran on what sounded like 2 or 3 cylinders. So I shut it off. Tried to start it again and it turned over but nothing happened. Whats going on? :o|

Sounds like fouled spark plugs to me. Try replacing the plugs and I bet it fires right up. All these new high performance style four stroke engines are prone to fouling plugs if they are repeatedly cold started and not brought up to operating temperature and ran/cleaned out. For the fuel injected sleds its kinda like starting it with the choke on all the time if you only run it for a short period of time. I recommend only starting these sleds when you absolutely have to or when your going out for some fun (riding)!

Pro-trail,

I agree with Kevin at Port Yamaha. When you first started it the other day did you let it fully warm up before shutting it off? If not you probably "cold fouled" your plugs. These sleds really need to be fully warmed up before shutting them off.

when you start it and the red light is on, do not touch the throttle or it is highly likely to flood the plugs. when i bought this sled and knew that it had been flooded, i automaticly changed the plugs just to be safe. like has it been mentioned, you should let any 4 stroke get up tp operating tempure before shutting it down. imo.

disconnect the fuel pump and turn the key for a couple of seconds, that will get rid of the excess fuel in the cylinders. Reconnect the fuel pump and start. You may have to lightly press the throtle a bit to get all cylinders firing again, let it warm up and you will be ok..

The same thing happened to me a couple weeks ago when I picked it up from the dealer. They didn't let it warm up enough before they loaded it in my truck for me and when I got it home it wouldn't start without me feathering the throttle. Once I got it running I put the back up on the stand and ran it pretty hard and all it would do was sputter on a couple cylinders and backfire.
I thought for sure the plugs were fouled. I pulled it in the garage and it sat for a couple days before I got around to changing the plugs. Before I started working on it I fired it up just to check and sure enough it ran like a champ. I will admit I went ahead and changed the plugs for --its and grins, but it really didn't need it.

I would have to be pretty hard up to take my brand new shiney apex out on three inches of snow....

....nah I would do it in a heartbeat :)

Pro-trail,

You need the caps that thread onto the tops of the plugs for the electrical connection to the coil to be tight. If you buy the plugs from Ulmer Racing they will have the caps installed.

Otherwise if you buy them elsewhere you could take the threaded caps off of any old plugs that you may have laying around and screw them onto the new plugs.
