Apex XTX first ride review

small detail, but i love how the flap is so far out, I hate looking at my slked with a chewed up flap. I have gone through 3 last year

I agree, I love the new snow flap design/profile. will they rivet on to our older apex's and attaks in place of the stockers?!?

2nd ride report

Got to do about 20 miles ditch banging yeterday so up to 60 miles total.

The suspension works very well. I'm still impressed with how it smoothly soaks up even the biggest bumps and jumps. No bucking at all from either end. Could push it faster than I wanted to go with no troubles at all.

I can tell the engine is starting to loosen up a little more. Still tight but, is reving out a little more. Can't really tell a speed or RPM because I was too busy hanging on and watching where I was going. The 2011 is definitly more power than the previous year Apexes.

My son has a Nytro XTX. He rode my Apex just a couple miles and said he was sold already on the power steering.

We should be able to get on the river here in a week or so. Will be able to get some high speed cruising miles on for a report on that. Already installed some UHMM tunnel protector extensions and drilled the track for studs. It really needs them to help hook the power.

Can't wait to get this thing on the trails in the UP.

How many times to you have to attempt to start it before it stays going?

I have not ridden my 2011 yet, but each time I start it, [4 times so far] it takes about five try's before it stays going. {Starts and quits each time until the last time]

And yes I do run it 10 minutes each time I start it so plugs should not be fouled.

Never seen that before..... My old apex started everytime on the first crank even with the colder plugs in it.

Mine is two and then it goes. My Vector is first one and it goes.

What's this about 2-3-4 tries before stays running??? My SE starts and runs first time every time(so far) as did my 2006???Sounds like something's wrong. Even with my crappy PDI she ran like a top yesterday. 210kms and so begins a new love affair! ;):D But Snowtrackers are in my very near future as those new skiis still dart like crazy!

Start up

Mine starts fine every time, first try.
I normally turn the key on, wait for the fuel pump to stop running and the tach goes up and down...then I hit the starter. No troubles at all for mine.

The only single complaint I have is the weight when I put it on the dollys in the garage. Especially when the skid has a bunch of snow in it.

We rode about 60 miles in some of the roughest trails I've ever been on Sunday. Up to 117 miles on it now. I was sure glad to have the suspension this sled has. Bottomed out the front end once shooting over a drive way and hitting the up side of a bump on the other side. Not a hard hit at all, just knew I found the full travel. Also bottomed the skid out once or twice on a hard hits. I have it set to soft on the spring and the shock. Again, not a hard hit, just enough to know I used full travel. I spent the afternoon watching the people in front of me getting the crap beat out of them. I could see them take a hard bump, got braced for it but, the sled would take the same bump well.

The steering and skis worked well IMO. Had no trouble making it go where ever I wanted it to. It's very stable and control-able. I've not noticed any handling issues so far. You don't realize how nice the power steering is until you switch back to a sled without it.

The engine braking is gone. When letting off the throttle, it acts like any 2 stroke sled coasting down.

With all the beating around all afternoon, I was expecting to be sore and have sore arms and shoulder. (I'm old!) To my surprise, I felt fine on Monday.

The engine is loosening up a little more. I've still not seen it over 10,000 but, it is reving a little more all the time. The engine does pull very hard.

Interesting on the starting issue. This sounds similar to what my father experienced on his first year model 700 efi Grizzly. He took it in and it was something with the fuel injection mapping. His new Grizzly he recently bought fires right off.

The first year Grizzly 700 had nothing to do with the mapping, but it was an issue with a faulty roll over valve causing preasure in the gas tank , which was causing the stauling issue. I have a 2007 and 2008 700 Grizzly with EPS. There was an updated roll-over valve bulletin for all 2007 and some 2008 Grizzly 700's. Now back to the original post....

OK, I'll ask him again over Xmas dinner but I don't recall him mentioning that. Were they stalling only on initial startup or anytime during running them? I know his was only during a startup. I don't own a 4 wheeler so my info is only 2nd hand.

"Cold Shot"

Do you turn the key all the way to "off" when is stalls? If not, try it...it resets the "cold fuel shot" for start-up.

You guy's probably already know this but I thought I'd throw it out there.

Thanks.

I did know that and made sure I did that procedure last night when I lit her up.

Still took 3 trys before she stayed running. [Better than 4 or 5] Maybe she is still just a little tight and it will continue to get better.

It's the leaner map, that they are using....
