I have been told that the approach angle of the Attack is not good for boondocking. Can it be changed? Have a chance at one with a 2" ,paddle and I like a 136.

Ths.

Of course it can be done. It requires that you take the suspension out and throw it in the garbage, replacing with something with a lower approach angle, like a setback expertx. The stock suspension cannot be set back.

lol.....which is EXACTLY what I did. I have such a shallow approach, it's crazy. I went with a 144 X 1.5" Crossover, no studs and my 136" Expert X set back 4". Should be a fun winter.

I also replaced the skis with C@A Pro XT's to help keep the front up.

But, yes. I also think the angle is part of the trenching issues. I'm far from a pro, but I do think this is an issue for boondocking this sled.

I have my 07 attak with a 144"x2" when I go out west I suck the front of the skid up with the limiter strap. Yes this does take away a little from your travel but it does work. Try this, look at your skid when its sitting on level ground. The angle is'nt to bad. then lift the back end off the ground, the front of the rails drop down. this is what is happening in the deep snow. Lift the #*$&@ end of a factory mountain sled and the rails will not drop much if any. If it does the limiter is set to loose.Going to a different skid that is set back would be ideal, but the same rules apply. You don't want that skid to drop down.

Yes that is true but with the transfer rod set to max I/you can lift the front end at will. All I am saying is you can adjust some of the trenching out of the stock skid!

So what is the best set-up for running the stock suspension in deep snow. A new suspension is out of the question this year.

I tried for two seasons, adjusting this and that, the Mono smiply is too steep for powder. Enjoy it for what it is...then when you are able to upgrade...make sure that whatever you buy has a favorable angle for deep snow appications. I thought about an 08' Nytro and extending it to a 144"....but the same problem would still exist "too steep" so I bought an MTX and hopfully it has what I need.

It might be possable to relocate the stock skid back 4 inches. However I found for durabilty and the simple amount of frustration you either run it stock or choose a different skid. The expert X relocated back is a great setup. I was on the fence about buying the MPI tunnel kit which allows you to drop and roll the stock chain case to drop the approach angle way down and run the stock skid. The MPI kit comes with everything including a u shape rear cooler for less than $1000. Not sure what a X cost these days, but its just another way to go. I wish I was made of money!

Anybody considering a relocation should keep one thing in mind; VERY FEW suspensions are compatible with relocation. The ONLY one I KNOW of is ExpertX. Yamaha suspensions CANNOT be relocated because if they do, they will need the track to be able to stretch out by several inches.

doesnt hartman relocate a bunch of his? he is selling a relocation kit to my buddy converting his 08 nytro to a 144. tom says this is the way to go over just adding extension

I did a hartman skid relocation on my 97 MM. It was a trench-0-matic before but after the relocation (stretched it to 141 too) That sucker was allmost unstuckable!!!!

Last I knew he wasn't selling thing for the monoshock, but who knows.
