Hi everyone,
I noticed that the coils are arcing on my 03 RX1. Whats the current consensus for fixing these? Am i also correct to think that this has something to do with not reaching full rpm?

You can clean them with brake cleaner. Then use liberal amount of dielectric grease when installing. I have seen arcing that looked like the 4th of July before cleaning.

what part of the coils do you clean ,the thing? same thing for the grease were to put it?

Thanks guys!
I will clean them up and put dielectric grease on them. I really don't want to spend the money to upgrade the coils.... I will try this first.

Keep an eye out on ebay, you can get them pretty cheap. You unfortunately are going to need them if you are having issues now.

Clean as much as you can; inside and out, even carefully on the sides of the block. Liberal amount of dielectric to the top of the spark plug on re-install...got to be careful when re-installing not to disturb it much. Just work the coil back on (twisting and pushing) and ensure it snaps in.

Well I cleaned them up. I found the little springs that hold the threaded end of the spark plugs were stuck with carbon deposits. So I cleaned them up and now they hold the plug securely. Put some dielectric grease on and now no more light show under the hood!

On a side note the coils have Mitsubishi logo on them.... I wonder if we cross reference them to an less expensive automotive application?

doubtful but you never know misubishi makes ALOT of yamaha electrical parts
