Started my 04 Warrior up after doing some summer maintenance and noticed 2 coils leaking to the engine. Pulled all 4 and they all showed signed of arcing.
Is this common? The sled has never missed or been hard to start. The 2 I could see are leaking bad. Hard to believe it wouldn’t degrade performance.
Do the coils have to be replaced? They are not cheap!

You do not have to change out all coils at once. Start by changing the most affected ones. Watch the Classifieds, buy the '05 coils as they are the updated parts for a fix to this problem.
BTW - I got mine changed under warranty even when warranty was officially out. They can be a security issue going vertical, saying that made my dealer listen, he called Yamaha right away and they did agree and warranted the coils, all 4 of them. No more arcing.

Y.E.S. replaced mine last year. But you can clean the arcing ones with brake cleaner. Clean out the holes in the valve cover too. Also, they can be coated with Dielectric.
If you buy some on E-bay or some other place, watch out to ensure you do not get '03s They had another problem with the connectors. But, on E-Bay, you have a high likelyhood of getting some that were acring for the seller. Make sure you get new ones.

Get the '05s they are the fix. The '05s stay put and do not become loose for a long time, do as Len Todd said, get new ones.

My 05 developed that issue after about 2500 miles, noticed it shortly after I bought it used with about 2200. It was randomly hard to start and idled erratically. Pulled all 4 and cleaned them up. Make sure to take the rubber caps at the end off and clean the connector, as well as behind that big C-clip ring that goes around it. I used carb cleaner, worked fine. A bit of electric grease on the connector and no more arcing, and the idle is perfectly smooth now. Put a thousand miles on it last year and checked them again last week as I was getting it started....some slight signs or arcing, but nothing compared to when I originally pulled them.
