When deciding to order..... Hmmmm.....I'll take the model with the noisy clutch and pass on that exploding clutch model please!

My Dad always said you never know how good a company is til something goes wrong. He was right.
How a company responds to a problem that occurs tells you everything.
AC hopefully steps up. Yamahas solve and acknowledgement on the clutch noise is disappointing.
I have no preference Yami or AC....but will buy one or the other next year. This type thing is the deal maker vs deal breaker for me in deciding. I will be watching closely because its a toss up as of now. I love them both.

The 17's are right there. Yamaha is replacing the prone to crack exhaust shield and the driven rollers at no cost to the owner. Pretty minimal if you ask me.
As for the drive clutch on the Winder, well its just going to rattle just like all the other 3 cylinders have prior. If you want it to go away, you'll need to replace it with a PB80 if the rattle drives you nuts. I'll be testing with the PB80 by the time the snow hits here again.

the 17s are not right there Knapp I think your forgetting the long list of items...primary coil bind, secondary coil bind, blowing belts, wrong offsets, gas tank insulators falling off , helix not touching all 3 rollers these sleds are far from perfect and for a 18-20k sled they really need to come out with some fixes and fast

Mike, is there a part number for the SW taper? Does CVtech have anything specific yet?The 17's are right there. Yamaha is replacing the prone to crack exhaust shield and the driven rollers at no cost to the owner. Pretty minimal if you ask me.

They have one specific for the Winder coming this fall Dan. I've already told Wowchad to order me one up.
Otherwise, I have to think anyone of the PB80s that go on say a Nytro would work too.

I have to chime in on the 2017 Sidewinder loud Primary clutch whereas I am one of those that have not been happy with the really loud clutch rattle!
So, I took my sled in to the dealer for some warranty work at the end of season. Temp was around 70F when I started it and it surprised me with how quiet it was compared to this past winter.
I am one who starts his sleds every couple of months instead of fogging etc, and was surprised again a couple of weeks ago when I started her up and ran it in the trailer for 15 minutes or so, it was fricken quiet again????
My last ride of the season was in 50F weather and it was dam noisy then.

You would think the heat shield tape on the gas tank would be a fire hazard and would be a recall, not just a bulletin or some misc. thing that is checked if you happen to bring it to a dealer. How many owners are out there that don't visit this site and are clueless about the issue. Clutch rollers and noisy things are one thing but something that is intended to keep heat off a plastic tank full of gas. Really Yamaha no recall sent to owners?

I had a 2008 Nytro that the clutch rattled like a diesel tractor from brand new. Put 8 thousand miles on it and it rattled till the day I sold it. I never did anything to it other then blow the dust out of it once a season. I've seen TRA clutches and PB 80 clutches blow apart but I have yet to see a Yamaha clutch do the same. Has there been an issue with Yamaha clutches blowing apart? I can't imagine the Sidewinder clutch being any less durable than what we had on our Apex's. If it's just noise and nothing else then I'm not too concerned.

If the rattle bothers you that much then you are spending too much time not moving! Get on the gas and go. Ha
The rattle has been around since 05 vector. Not sure why it's such an issue again 12 years later. Sidewinder is such a smooth quiet engine so clutch rattle stands out more I guess. At least it's just noise and not vibration in chassis and handlebars like other sleds.

I agree, engine so smooth and quiet noise does stand out more, we have had a couple of Nytro's with high milage, noisy but no issues

Ha Ha, not the case for me. I surely could have more!
But yeah you have many good points about the smoothness etc with just annoying clutch noise.
What strikes me is why quiet with warm temps and really noisy in cold temp?
I know that all shrinks with cold, metal included.
