i'm wondering if primary clutches off of any year RX to current Apex are interchangable. not sure if they have made any changes over the last 10 years.
i have an 07 apex and i'm just wondering what my options are for used clutches. The hole clutch not parts.

If you compare the part no.'s from a '03 rx1 to a '10 apex for the basic clutch parts sheaves spider and cover, the no. are the same. I never checked the weight and roller no. but I would imagine that they would change for different applications.

All 4 stroke clutches are interchangeable. Weights, rollers and spring can be swapped from one to another. Phazer has a shorter cover. If you find a used clutch just pm me what it's off of and I can tell you what is needed to make it work on your sled.

ok so got clutch off. i would like you're opinions on what you think.
sorry if the pictures aren't great. to the left of the nail is small crack in the fixed sheeve. theres about 6 -8 of these little cracks on that sheeve. nothing on the sliding sheeve. Everything in the clutch moves slides great. you can see the wear ,where the belt sits on the sheeves

Those don't look too serious...... down by the belt engagement area. How many miles do they have?
Mine has 13,200 miles on it. I just had my primary faces cleaned up by a machinist being the former owner was a cruiser at 50mph and they actually had a minor groove in the middle of the sheaves. I also put in a new cover bushing, new secondary shoe ramps and a secondary bushing. Otherwise they were in very good shape. No roller wear or roller busing wear from the easy use.

Ok, you should check the bushings and the shoes I mentioned. Also check the secondary helix bushing. Mine needed replacement but I plan on a clutch kit that comes with a new helix, otherwise I would have done that too. Check the rollers and the roller bushings on the primary too for side to side slop. Then naturally a new belt to finish off things when parts are replaced.
PS: you need an arbor press to push those bushings out and the new ones in. I have one at work. Something most machine shops have.
I got all my parts from Port Yamaha. They have a nice online parts fiche. Kevin at their parts desk knows all the part numbers by heart though if you call.

thanks journeyman. i had planned on going over the secondary and replace the healix buttons and will check for bushing slop.
i found a used primary i'm going to go with. theres really nothing else wrong with this primary other then those little cracks everything else is snug. i figured for $350.00 i won't have to think about it every time i hit a rail bed.
Thanks for all you imput.

Just replaced mine. Same cracks. Just didn't want to experience a grenading clutch at 70mph. Not worth taking a chance on if I would think. Youtube blown clutches and it wakes you up fast.

My old rx has those atm. Have used clutch on the way for it. You could catch your nail in the cracks on it. Going to take it to the machine shop and see if it can be cleaned up for a spare. Sled has 15000 km on it but I did do a fair bit of 15-20 kph running in some of the family trails.
