I know I've read about this in places but I can't find it. I'm wondering do I need to glue my carbs onto the carb boots for up to 15 lbs boost or will the clamps hold it?

Thx Rx1M5

Carbs aren't going to blow off of the boots, but the IC can blow off of the carbs. Whose kit are you using? Most of them now ship with carb adapter rings that help mate the IC silicone hose to the bells. A BOV would help as well if you don't already have one. Your carbs aren't going to blow off under boost, it is when you lift the throttle after max boost that they're likely to pop off.

I have a CPR kit but I don't have the glue on carb rings. I do have a BOV to mount in the charge tube though. I also have some pretty stout T bolts for the silicone couplers on the IC. I was looking at the Alpine Apex install DVD and they said they were glueing the throttle bodies on because they were blowing off under high boost. Maybe high boost is 17+ lbs or something like that.

Maybe you've read my experiment on installing my bender stage 2 turbo (last winter) without first clean/sticking the intake boots to the head (APEX only have a clamp instead of bolted on the head like rx1) so you guessed what happened? my intake kept blowing off until I decided to install a screw through each rubber/clamp and tapped the intake port itself to hold them in place.

Take the spacer off the stock clamps that hold the carbs to the boots on the head. This will allow you to tighten the carb clamps up all the way and shouldn't blow off. I've had mine over 20# and never had that kind of problem, Ken.

You must use an expoy that can with stand gas. I didn't, the rings that go onto the carbs did blow off, my fault. Since then, problem gone, have seen the boost gauge over 20lbs in the mountians. Myself, and 4 other cpr kits that I know of here in Alberta don't have problems with the carbs/intercooler coming off. Never used anything on the hoses/piping, only seen/heard apex's having the problems.

What do those rings look like? Are they something I could make?Red I got that compressor housing we spoke of thanks for the lead.

If you have access to a lathe, or somebody that could make them. Not sure what the size of the intercooler outlet to the carbs is, but all they do is make the carb mouths the same size. Since it is more likely to find std size hose where the kit was made. So the inside diameter is what the outside of the carb, then the outside diameter is the same as the intercooler. Just abit longer than the flange on the carb. If this is confusing I will take some pics and send to you, pm your phone number and I will call you, later.

I took about a foot long hose clamp and went around the large tube of the intercooler and the thru bolt for the carbs.[MCX on RX1],cured the problem!!

Call Jeff at CPR, your kit should have the carb rings with it unless you purchased it used and the previous owner kept them. Just a FYI

My Bender Stage II kit kept blowing off. The hose size is the same a a gas filler neck on a pickup. Go to the local auto parts dealer and get a long chunck and cut them yourself so that they barley fit between the intercooler and the carbs.
