are these coils melted

On my first run with the turbo it ran great for the first few miles and then every time I got on the throttle it would go from whap to bvvvvvvvvv. I decided to put plugs in it and it oook a full hour to get the coils out of motor. Clutch side came right out and the other three look like this. P.S The motor was rebuilt two years ago and he only went a few hundred miles last year. I started scraping with razor on right and the left is untouched.

Just for our info, is the Material deformed? Or, are you just scraping off carbon. They appear to have been arcing for some time. '03 and early '04 coils had some problems with the connection between the plugs and the coil, which added to the arcing problems.

I suspect that you will end up replacing all 4.

just take the iron coating off and you will be fine .I did this two years and no problems now.

yes they just need a good cleaning with break clean and they will be just fine. you will be amazed how much carbon comes off if you do this over a clean white rag.

I am refering to the hard plastic area in the middle. It appears to me that it melted internally and basicly pumped out of the coil and formed itsellf inside the head. three look like these and the other one is normal. I did notice they had not pushed the coils all the way down in the head. My first 03 donated three coils and it works fine. I assume when you guys speak of carbon you mean the brown powder? I will be removing the replacements and giving them a good cleaning. The part that keeps them from being installed is a hard plastic. At first I thought they had put silicone in there but it is rock hard. Is it that the carbon melts the coil? Hope this clears it up. Perhaps I will take a pic of the good one next to one of these? Thanks for the input

If the coils material is deformed, then I personally would not reuse them. If it is just carbon, you still have to remember that something caused them to start arcing. It could be the connector to the plug is shot. This was a common problem. The dealers were even covering these under warranty even after the warranty ran out. They may still do it. It would not hurt to check.
