At a loss with Ice Scratcher. Anybody have ideas?

I like the look of regular scratchers but the cable scratchers on the skis look like they would work very well. I am not sure what I think about drilling holes in brand new skis but that would be the only way.

Are scratchers worth having? Any issues with them catching or hooking when crossing roads etc?

I have mine mounted on the running board as far forward as they can go on both of my sleds. I had to run lots of glare ice on the lake early in the season for 20 miles to go back and forth from the camp to the truck. The skids were covered with shaved ice and the temp light never came on.

I had the rail mounted ones and they kept breaking on glare ice especially when driving over frozen ruts.

I assume the ski mounts are the best, but I am happy with the type I have installed.

Got any pics of how they look?

Check out Royal Distributing, that is where I got mine.
Instead of the metal plate provided to tuck the scratcher when not in use, I used a stainless steel eyebolt that I partially cut the eye to form the shape of a hook. The scratcher is much easier to tuck away and more secure.

Here is the link...easier than taking a pic (sorry I am lazy...and not that computer literate).

It is the one on the top of the page. $54.99.

Cable scratchers are fine on groomed trails and general hard pack, but they do not do the trick on glare ice or rock solid snow.
