The key does not give the true timing, because of the way the key is adjusted in the fly wheel. ie. If you have a 4 degree timing key, it's probably only advanced 1-2 degrees. The ignition controller can go up to 10 degrees. Whe yo uare at 10 degres, it's a true 10 degrees. For trail ridiing, Allen has maps that run 10 degrees in the lower RPM range with more fuel and pulls it back to 4-6 degrees up top. It works very well... Once you start playing with it, you will see the affects of changing fuel and timing throughout the TPS/RPM range. Get the LCD screen and you can store over 30+ maps and load at any time. ie. lots of timing and fuel for 660ft or decrease it a bit for WOT for 2 miles.. You can also push to REV limiter past the stock, which is 11,200. You could easily push it 11,500-12,000RPM..
