I had a nytro XTX and it was faster (top speed) than the shorter tracked version.
Cannot explain why but must be due to gearing, track attack angle, etc? Typically would think longer track is heavier and slower?
Is this the case with Attack vs. Apex as well?
I am not sure if there is distinct difference as with the Nytro's?

attak's are faster then std apex's as well. the longer track somehow gives them longer legs and better hole shot due to traction.

The Apexs are geared to tall. Put 40/24 gearing in the and go race again.

Unless I am on firm hardpack, my brothers stock 2011 XTX will be slightly faster top end than my 2011 128. I am geared down to be equal to his XTX gearing. Neither one is studded. Track angle and traction. He is 80 lbs heavier than me too.

What will really be nice on the new ones for 2016 is the Ripsaw will be gone. I had a Ripsaw II installed on my second day in Michigan earlier this month. I rode the first day with my stock track and the rest of the week with the new track. Talk about night and day difference. The RSII really hooks up. That is going to make a big difference in how the new Apex models perform.

Why the 40? Stock gear is a 38 is that correct? I'm guessing that you gain hole shot? Do you loose top end? I have a er that has been extended to a 136 I was told to drop down to a 23. I have around 2000miles on the setup thinking about putting the 24 back in just to see if there's a difference and if so what is it.The Apexs are geared to tall. Put 40/24 gearing in the and go race again.

You will gain top end because the sled simply can't pull the silly tall 1.58 gear ratio that it comes stock with. The cheaper alternative is replace the 24 with a 23. You can still use the stock chain that way as well however the reason I said go with a 40 bottom is the chain won't have the dog leg like it would by going with the 23 top. If you go the 40 bottom route, you will need a longer chain however which if you don't already have, is the much more expensive route. Also guys, the White secondary spring that comes in the Attak works killer in the Apex. Get your gearing to somewhere around 1.65, install the white spring at 60 degrees (3 and 3) and it will be a whole new sled.

Matt is dead on with the 23 or 40 I went with the 40tooth and got by with my stock chain tight fit but will work, also run the white been running this set-up since 2007!

Hey guys, this is very interesting. Is the white spring a lower rate? I find my 07 revs to almost 11 000 on top and doesn't seem to climb anymore. Would this allow it to shift just a little more?
Funny, I came from an srx and there were numerous threads on clutching/gearing. It seems with the Apex's people just leave them alone. BTW...2007 Apex GT 3500kms.

Did you mean 10,000? The White spring is stiffer than the pink that comes on the Apex. When you say shift more the stock primary and secondary are limited from the factory to allow full shift. The only way to get full shift is to machine the primary and install machined split collars. Not sure if you've ever had the primary off the sled but if you have, take the spring out, put a belt between the sheaves and close it as far as you can. You will see it will physically not close to the point the belt is riding to the top. Most primary's will shift out to about 3/16" below the top. By machining both the bottom of each sheave and the split collars, you can get it to close that remaining 3/16". Also, the same can be said for the secondary the limiting factor there is the helix. If you machine off around . 020 off the tips of the helix, it will allow it to open further. So the gearing will allow it to only shift out so far and without the other things I just mentioned, that's as far as it will shift.Hey guys, this is very interesting. Cool that makes a lot of sense and I HAVE wondered about getting the belt to use the whole distance. Yes my sled will rev to around 10 800 rpm at full throttle. It seems high to me as it does not seem to be under load but I have had numerous replies on this site that it is where it needs to be. I will say from 50-85mph it pulls like crazy. The fastest I've seen on the speedo is 185kms which would be around 111mph. Yes that's the speedo and the lake was snow covered.

x2. The xtx would eat my 07 attak for lunch. Not saying the attak is slow by any stretch but this xtx is an even bigger beast.

That's nice to hear. I have an 06 attak but my next sled is a xtx and I wouldn't want to back words in the fun flipper department.x2. The xtx would eat my 07 attak for lunch. Not saying the attak is slow by any stretch but this xtx is an even bigger beast.
