First, is this shock rebuildable? And secondly. do you have to remove the skid to get the shock out, or can you unbolt while still in the skid like I did my 03' RX!?

I believe all of the KYB's are rebuildable...I don't work for Yamaha so I should be believable .

Definitely rebuildable, heck I've revalved one of those shocks so many times this summer it's not even funny! Easiest way to take it out while it's still in the sled.
1-Make or find a stand to go under the rear bumper that will hold the rear of the sled up at the same height as it would sit with no one on the sled.
2-Put the bumper up on the stand.
3-Click the shock in the "soft" position on the tunnel controller.
4-Unhook the cable going from the tunnel controller to the front of the shock.
5-Remove the bolts (using 14mm wrenches) in the front and the rear of the shock and it should slide right out.
