Anyone had the chance to do some off trail riding with your attak and how did it compare with 121" track. I didn't buy the sled for off trail but just the same want some feedback about breaking trail in fresh snow. I know the stock skis suck at flotation and may be willing to trade up to the precisions. Thanks

go with powder skis, and at least a 1.5 paddle track. The ripsaw sucks in deep snow.

Don,t take the attak in real deep snow; even if you have 2 surfboards for skiis. You will get very very stuck.....a lot; even with good riding skills.Apex is even worse.

I actually got to try our 2007Attak last April up around Grand marais when they got dumped on. I actually was pleasantly suprised as it did very well. As the above posters said the stock skis would sink easily esecially when chopping the throttle, so I quickly learned not to do that. I only got it stuck once though. They had received over 3 foot of fresh snow so it was a good test i think. I am thinking of installing either the 6.9 pilots or SLP powder pros as I have on my other sleds. I was very pleased with it's performance in the deep stuff, you just have to keep momentum, it even did very well picking through the trees going up hills. This was just my limited experience with the new sled as I only got to put 786 miles on it, but then again we purchased it in March. Gene

For those that are hardcore boondockers, this sled comes up short. But for ME, it does everything I want it to do. I replaced the stock ski's with Slydog Powderhounds and the Ripsaw with a Predator 1.25. The ski's float my 300+ lbs., and the frontend of the sled very well. The track is'nt as good as the Ripsaw on trail, but more than adequate. Offtrail it is MUCH better than the Ripsaw. The key is just what was stated above. Momentum! And a smooth throttle hand and an adjustment of the transfer rod to reduce transfer helps a lot. I tried MANY settings and found that 2 marks toward the min. side worked best for me. With a lot of transfer, it trenched badly and was a HUGE handful when letting off the throttle. Never let completely off when boondacking. It'll pitch you right over the bars LOL! DON"T ask me how I know this LOL. Kinda' long, but I believe the versatility of this sled is great for MY riding style

Trust me it is hilarious to see 300 lbs go head over butt over the bars. LOL
Gas for trip 200 bucks
motels 180 bucks
food 100 bucks
Seeing Dave straight up and down over the bars priceless lmao

Even running the transfer rod at the stock setup it is easy to trench, as Dave said it requires judicial use of the fuel flapper until some momentum is built up. It definitely is not my RMK but i thought it did very well and with some better skis I think it could do most anything. There was even this small bowl area we found that when you started climbing out it flattened out kinda like a 8 foot wide step and it called for a 90* change in direction as the trees just got too thick then it went up again at about a 60* angle. Well I couldn't make the turn and had to stop get off and pull the back end around so I was lined up for the rest of the hill and just hit the throttle hard enough to get it going then hammered her for the climb and it did it and shot off the top of a razor back that we couldn't see from the bottom so these pigs can fly too LOL. Ya I believe its more than adequate for the trail conditions I am talking about. I was just wondering how it did in like 8" - 10" of fresh snow? Sounds like I'm going have fun with that thing. Thanks for the comments..

good post viper dave. Min transfer helped mine alot. Feathering the throttle definate helps out to. My powderhounds really helped out on the front. The clutching engages pretty crisp, this has to fall hand in hand with some of the trenching problems.

I agree. I heard all the bad remarks about the Attak off trail so i was nervous going up to Munising over Easter after they got the 4-5 feet of fresh powder, but I was actually amazed at how well it did. Only got it stuck once or twice and that was jagging around. I really had a lot of fun!

I can honestly say that trip was one of my most fun trips ever, we did nothing but boondock and only put on 100-130 miles a day but it was a blast. This was my 12 year old sons' first trip boondocking riding by himself on my RMK and he had the best time of his life he said. He also did not get stuck even once, but then again he has been on a sled since he was 2 years old so he is quite a capable rider. I cannot express how proud of him I was and how good it felt just to have him out there with me sharing that experience. Gene

should we have a "how to ride an attack " workshop I under stand the attack isn't a mountain sled & I agree with the clown skis, buddy had venture rs skis was amazing. Understanding that, A few friends & I went to northern Quebec (chicoutimi) after a 4 foot snow storm. All the locals were on mountain sled. We still could play!
