Attak Backfiring???

Has anyone had any problems with backfiring? I have an 06 Attak with 4200 miles on it and the last three times out it has backfired about every third time you decelerate. Some times it's a small pop but other times it's a real bang with flames and all. I know my donuts or y pipe needs repair but I'm going to the U.P this weekend so it won't get fixed till I get back. Just sounds like the exhaust is gonna blow apart sometimes. Otherwise engine runs great. Thanks

You'll just have to get the exhaust fixed. This has been asked before, but the backfiring usually comes from the exhaust filling up with unburned fuel during a full throttle run, and lighting during deceleration.

I was also wondering if anyone else had thought worn donuts could cause the backfiring. It doesn't only happen after a high speed run it can be at any speed. Guess I'll tackle the donuts next week and see what happens

I got one for you guys......... A small but well located dealer that services all brands was shooting the bull with me the other day as I bought a few oil filters for my buddies new vectors.. He told me he's heard nothing but good things about the motor. So I stopped in the other day with my sled.. He asked me to pop the hood.. He has never had any in for a problem with the engine... WOW! He just loved the way mine idled and the exhaust tone. ;)! :yam: MM.

from all the feedback here.....the backfiring(more then typical) is being caused by worn out donuts on Y pipes/Flex pipes....mine were worn pretty bad but had NO backfiring yet,so yours are most likely worse then mine were...since i did mine early enough,my Y pipes were perfect still.

Not changing them will result in broke Y pipes which are expensive.

keep us posted
Dan

Your doughnuts are gone for sure. When you change them, make sure to look at your Y pipes close! Mine were not cracked at the time, but worn very thin forward of the connection to the exhaust. Once the doughnuts go, the exhaust will rub on the Y pipe up a bit from the connection. If its worn thin anywhere near the connection you might as well replace them. I put mine back together and 200 miles later was tearing it back apart as the pipes cracked.

Hey cooler ,this is wierd your thread could very well have been my thread.4200 miles,at the ty ride it started the back fire. by the end of the weekend it was OBVIOUS the exhaust was the problem. My dealer called this morning, three bad donuts ,one bad y-pipe.three bad flex tubes. All this is covered under my Y.E.S. The thing is ,is that your description could have been my sled.

That is weird. I work with a small dealer who only sold 1 other Attak in 06 and that guy came in 2 weeks ago and needed donuts right at 4000 miles. I was up Ice fishing this last weekend when it really became obvious and am leaving tomorrow for U.P. Just wasn't enough time from tue to thur to get parts and fix it. Hopefully it hangs together for the weekend. I know it is prob just making it worse but i didn't want to back out of the trip and screw my buddies

Rockerdan, had a post on how to do the donut change out, i'll try and find it and post it

I have also noticed that the backfiring issue presents itself in low snow conditions when the machine starts to run hot.. i find my will backfire.

thinking of putting the rear exchanger on it for next season.

cheers

After how many miles should maybe have a look at the exhaust donuts? I hear a few guys got this covered even though they never had warrenty, is that true? I have 1500 miles on my sled so far, love it, no problems.
