done many skid frames in my day, this is the first time on my 07 attak.
i have read the tech section & other posts on this topic. i still need some pointers. i am trying to install rear skid. the machine is sitting on a stand takes all wieght off front & rear suspension. i moved skid frame in place, installed rear 2 bolts, when i try aline front bolts the arms are at least 1-2 inches to far forward. i also had a helper at the time. limiter is undone, unbolted wieght transfer bar & also unbloted shock. removed rear bolts and tried to install fronts first, still am not able to line up. i can get in line vertically with holes but then can not move arms back (horizontal) to line up the holes.
i have not put alot of time in this but it should be straight forward, it's 4 bolts !.
the skid frame was at the dealers for warranty (cracked rails) i believe it is put back together correctly. any chance it's because machine is off the ground ? i'm not really intrested in installing from the side like some posts say.
any pointers guys ?

you need to rock the suspension backwards and use something to hold the skid up.....with the rear lifted you and your helper should be able to push the w arm back and up....
once youve got it the arms in..
shock next...then limiter strap....then transfer rod...let me know if you need more help

just to be clear, are saying i still have rear bolts in first, then rock backwards while trying to install front bolts ?

I always start with the front bolts. The rears always seem easier this way.

I've always installed suspensions by locking in the front bolts first as well.

Seems there is just more room and leverage when dealing with the rears. Can also put something under the track and raise/lower the rear of the sled and it will drop into place.
Granted....never had a mono out, but had many others throughout the years out.
Proaction CK is out now, IQ-dragon is on its way in. Actually its already in.

and at some point you may want to place a floor jack under the track, and use a long pry bar to adjust the alignment further. I usually end up doing this myself and I have found that this helps allot.

oh yeah....my floor jack is always close by when doing skids. Im always by myself. I dont know if I could do it with other person. I really hate doing them too....LOL Im usually sore as hell the next day from pushing, pulling at weird angles. Gives my shoulders a work out for sure.

yes...you can rock the skid up and back...use a floor jack....and I've used a something solid and lowered the sled lift down in different spots to get the skid to collapse where I need it to..
I do agree the fronts are the bugger...
maybe it is easier to start with them first..
remember the locktite!

I usually start in front first too. If I already had the back in and was looking for that 1-2" though, I might resort to the use of a ratchet type tie down strap.....

I've had mine out many times. I installed it differently this time and this is the easiest for me so far.
I installed just the front w-arm first and installed the front 2 bolts. It's so much easier to get the front arm in without damaging the plastic bushings this way. Also easier to get the front bolts in without all the weight of the whole suspension to deal with.
Then put the rest of the suspension in without the front bolt of the shock in. Also the rear transfer bolt out.
Bolt the bottom of the w-arm to the suspension.
Put the rear suspension bolts in.
Bolt front of shock in.
Bolt the transfer rod in.

Front bolts go in. I use 2 ratchet straps to pull the skid back and lift the front arm in place. Bolt in place. The lower rivit in the tunnel for the arm bracket is a pain in the #*$&@.
Next i remove the front bolt from the transfer rod. Shock and limiter straps are in place where I want them as I would be riding.
Lift the rear arm into place and put the bolts in. Lower the sled off the rear bumper lift alowing the transfer rod to easily bolt into place.
The whole time the front of the sled is on its skis on the floor. The rear of the sled is being held up by a bumper lift.
Takes me all of 1/2 hour to put the skid in and dring a few.

Make sure the sled is level. I had just the back rised up and found lifting the skis a few inches (2x4) work good.
