Hey guys, I'm currently extending my nytro to 136 as I would like to get into backcountry riding now. The trails are fun, but I love playing in powder. I have a place around Gaylord.I am more towards Vanderbilt though, and I'm curious where exactly I can ride. I know people have told me there's lots of places, but I don't even know where to begin. PM me if you'd like

Thanks
Eric

get a garmin gps and then goto VVmapping.com. You will get all the trails, Every little two track, road and highway. Will also display privite land, state forest and national forest.

I used to only ride groomed trails or well riden roads/pathes. Now that I got the setup I just described I go every where it's legal to ride and love it.

Oh boy where to start. I'll try to put something together for you in the next couple of days. If I map you a few area's please don't let the map fall into enemy hands. LOL.

lots of seasonal roads, powerlines and pipelines out there to ride, and i do recommend a gps cause its easy to get turned around and not know where ur at and u can get urself in some sticky situations in areas that are not brushed.

Ya I know the GPS is a must, and that's on the Christmas wishlist! A map would be great superman ( I believe it's you I'll ne to get the riser with ram mount from aswell lol). It won't trade hands lol. I'm trying to be a local and learn the local hot spots!!

Also, I rode two tracks alot last year and they were awesome, aswell as powerlines. Just looking for more, just hilly open or treed areas.

I haven't been able to find a really good map yet. but this will give you some ideas about where to start doing some research.

The Red area is Larry's Bar in Elmira northeast to Vanderbilt, north to Indian River, west to almost Petoskey and back down to Elmira. This is one of my favorite areas.

I would concentrate on the Area marked in Red. The roads you want to familiarize yourself with are Huffman Lake rd and the pipeline that runs north from Northern Michigan Speedway. Thumb Lake rd. Magee rd. Mason gravel pit road, Perry rd. Dunham rd. Chandler Hill rd. Walton rd. N. Charlevoix rd......Keep moving to the north to Peet rd and Great Lakes rd.... keep going still to springvale and weber lake rd area. You should find other 2 tracks and small play areas all along the way.

If you go to bing.com maps and zoom in on a Satellite view you can see pretty easy what I'm talking about and how it flows. There is some private land up thru the area but 80 to 90% of it is state land. There will be small play areas and all kinds seldom used 2 tracks if you look around. If you work at it you should be able to go to just about any town or bar in the area and only touch a groomed trail when your crossing it. Some roads will be plowed but most should not. You really can't get turned around to bad anywhere in this area. Generally if you pick a direction and go for 2 or 3 miles or so you will come out on some kind of plowed road. ***note*** You may also want to go down to the city building in Gaylord and get a Otsego county plat book. Its always nice to identify whats state land and what's private. I think they're still about $20 or $25 bucks. Mine is pretty old though. Plat books for Emmet and Cheboygan counties would probably be a safe bet as well.

The blue area is the Pigeon River state forest and you can ride anywhere a car is allowed in the summer. So you can use the 2 tracks going thru it.

The color purple is Rockmeisters favorite area to ride. I know this area very well too.

Chris you better not give any better maps then the above pics. Its hard to find good powder and keep it a secret. Its just a beat to #*$&@ area after a couple of people find it and everybody follows the tracks!
