HI guys, THANK GOD I found you...

Ok so here is the story....bought a 2004 rx warrior with 1900 miles ...in excellent shape....with a UNKNOWN aftermarket can....there is no markings or numbers to identify the can.

When I took it home and started it up...let it warm up it was backfiring like crazy....I took the sled to yamaha dealer and had fully serviced..carbs cleaned etc...when I took it from the yamaha dealer she was working fine....it was warmed up! And not idling for a long period

Let the machine cool down and started off again the next day...the machine was backfiring like crazy until I went a couple hundred feet and seemed like it burned off access gas in carb or whatever the problem is I rode the machine for 150kms that day and not a hitch....no backfire ...lags or whatever....

I took my machine back off the truck this morning and when I began to move after the warm up ....backfire like crazy again....what is the problem...the yamaha tech said she was getting too much fuel and lowered the floats as low as possiable....11mm i think....it seems like if I let her idle for a long time or one a cold start this is happening

So is the mystery cannister causing this ? Do i need to change jets? Should i go back to stock can? why is she backfiring after a cold start? PLEASE HELP ME...I will try to get a pic of the CAN today and post to see if anyone can idenity it

fuel in exhaust is from missfire, one or more plugs. pull all coils and clean with solvent or brake clean. remove both rubber pieces from each coil and clean well. wipe inside of valve cover where coil sits with rag or paper towel. all the black crap is carbon trace and will short circut the spark. you wont feel or hear it when it happens. install new plugs and try it.

Hi thanks for you quick reply...

I am pretty sure the mechanic had the coils out because he did replace all the plugs....maybe he never cleaned them up very good....i can try that again...would that be only at idle...like i said there was NO issue once I got going or started the machine warmed up and continued on....any other potential causes?

Where are these coils? I had my '03 mountain to the dealer and had the carbs cleaned twice this year and both times there was no dirt in them but since the first time she won't idle well at all when she is cold, I have the idle set at 1100RPM. So I am wondering where these coils are and EXACTLY how to get at them and what to do with them.

problem solved

Hi again guys, it was my TORS switch..we by passed it down by the carbs and away I went with no problems and machine is running perfectly fine.

The previous owner of my '03 Mountain said to never leave the choke on for longer than needed to just get the sled started, blows the plugs and what-not. Just use the choke full out to get the sled started and then slighty press the throttle in if need be to keep her idling until she can carry her own weight. My idle is set at 1100 RPM so I tend to keep the throttle pushed in so she stays at 1600RPM and warms up a little faster.
