So I finally was able to break in the new sled yesterday. Got over 100km in on the lake. Not bad for staying to the lake. Anyway here is the trouble. Within the first 30 km of riding this brand new machine I blew a belt. First 15km varied speed nothing hard. Next 15 km hold to bars for 5 to 8 seconds then backed off for a few mins.
I think it was a bad belt from factory. Why else would a brand new belt blow? I think it was a lamination issue as the top came of fairly cleanly. New belt installed very easily and no issues at all in fact feel and sounds better. The old belt sounded ratchety under 20 km / hour but on a new sled I thought that was just a characteristic of the sled. Going to dealer tonight or tomorrow when I am done riding today. I will be wanting a new replacement belt free.
Is demanding a free belt politely a fair thing to ask?
Anyone else have this happen?
Thanks guys.

If the belt separated on a brand new sled, I would think that would be a cheap way to keep a customer happy with a new belt. The ratchety sound is usually indicative of a burnt spot on the belt, caused by the clutch engaging and the track not moving. This can cause the start of delamination. Usually deep snow stuck situation, wet or frosty belt or too much track tension, parking brake left on etc.causes this.Hope this info helps and good luck. Being polite never hurts to start with! I would also have the sled with you if possible to have it looked at , as it is a new sled and the set-up could be an issue.

Thanks. I know I never burnt the belt there is not enough snow here to get stuck and I have never left the park break on. I will try and take the sled with me just to see but the new belt seems to be good. I hope for another 100km or so today.

dealer has seen this before. Not often but he said bad belts do get out there from time to time. New belt at their cost was their idea. Very pleased.

You still need to break in belts to make them last. Drive the first 20 miles by easing on the throttle to let the belt heat up not holding it to the bars right away.

Brand new sled with a brand new belt and blows at 30 kms. They should have given you a new belt, not sold it to you at dealers' cost. Have blown many belts over the past few years, top layer delamination followed by exploding belt if you don't catch it right away. In my experience mine have been caused by excessive heat in the clutches after sustained high speed runs.

X2 heat is a killer, warm day and high speeds.

I guess when I said at their cost I was not clear. They gave me the belt no charge to me. The just billed it to sales. So yes free belt for me no ?'s asked.
