Guys,
Just changed my belt because I'm a moron and forget to take my parking brake off unloading. Can't remember that for some reason.
Anyhow put the new belt on and once it warms up it squeels so loud it bugs your ears. Any suggestions.
Old one didn't squeel too bad just now and then and never like this. I added the ridiculously priced spacer to put it back in spec but I never heard a snowmobile sound like this. I also looked at alignment. By eyeball I can't see it cocked but then again I can't see a reference to measure against.
Anyhow what to do???

When you forgot your parking brake and did the bad job to your old belt, it propably leave a rubber coating on your primary sheaves especially in the bottom of them near the center shaft. Take a look a that and clean it if needed.
As for the belt height spec. in the secondary, the manual state between 1.5 over and 0.5 lower than the top of the sheaves... My experience is that anywhere higher than 0.5 mm over the sheave will result in belt squeel at idle....

Most likely the new belt measures slightly less circumference than the old one. It will wear/stretch after a few miles, or you can adjust the deflection. My wife's Vector did it this year for 50 miles or so...
You think I should clean the sheaves with some type of solvent or just wipe it with paper towel or other shop towel.

there are shims (washers) on your secondary that can be removed and most likely this will solve your problem.. You have to remove the secondary and there are three bolts on the side towards the engine remove these and remove the washers and replace.. sometimes the ends of the bolts are warn and you might need to replace the bolts... I have had this problem a couple of times when i replaced a warn or damaged belt ..
Just one more question. I heard somebody say that you should measure from the bottom of the cooling fins. Is that correct? Brand new I was slightly higher then the cooling fins and no squeak. If I adjust with the bottom of the cooling fins as a reference it squeels like crazy.
Who knows the deal?
It seems that I agree with Alain the higher you go the more squeel. Just going to fix it then winterize it but can't put it away with that annoying squeel!

The squeal will go away VERY shortly on it's own. You need to remove shims I believe to make the belt ride lower and force it to disappear. If you do this you will eventually want to add them back or you will lose some low end when the belt stretches...

the top of the the cooling fins is the reference. When i install my new belt at the beginning of the season it squeel very bad. I did not find my thinner washers to adjust it down ( don't remember where i store them) so i completely remove the washers that were on the three little bolts and solve the noise problem ( it make the belt sit around flush with the top of the sheaves). I run it for around 1500 miles and see that the belt begin to lower a little bit in the sheaves so i put back my washers and had no noise problem this time. If your hands are small enought, it is possible to add/remove washers without removing the secondary from the jackshaft.
I join the shop manual adjustment ...

Take one layer of washers out of the 3 Deflection Adjusting Screws on the engine side of the Secondary. Save the washers to put back in later, after the belt wears in a few hundred miles.
