Hey Guys
For you guys running the 4 cyl. I have a RS Rage I love the sled but the racket that comes out of the clutch drives me nuts! Lots of rattling noises up to abought 5500 RPM or so, also alot of rattling at idle. I Put in the kit that yamaha said was supposed to fix this but there is still alot of clutch noise. I have been looking at the 06 Attak. Do you 4cyl guys notice any of that racket from your clutch or is the 4 cyl a pretty tight sounding engine? Even Snow Tech's 05 fleet test on the RS vector in their latest issue they complain abought "some noises from the primary" . Never got a chance to try the 4cyl so you guys that have what do you think? How do they sound? THANKS !!!

I had the shims installed and it does seem alot quieter when 1st started but after riding awhile it only seems to be maybe 15% quieter than original noise...this noise is alittle annoying when you think about how quiet it could be if the clutch was completely silent...YAMAHA>>>wheres the complete cure???????

Lazy is 100% right. Just the reduction rattle at idle, especialy when hot. No clutch noise at all...

You have an RS Rage correct?
That means no gear reduction unit.
Did you get shims or the 3 new buttons with the O rings?

yeah same thing here..bout 20% sometimes...it seems to me that it is quieter at times, and louder at other times. i dont know if its just me or what the deal is. i cant hear the rattle anymore since i threw a hauck exhaust on. i get a lot of ppl on here and hardcore sayin it closes r trails down but any sled goin 80mph will be noisy...no matter what kind it is. i've also had a lot of compliments on it also. i think next year i'm gonna listen to the noise when i start it up..then check it after i warm the clutch upa little bit...see if there is any difference..also check the temperatures on the days that i check this. just an idea

So it sounds like the 4 cyl does not suffer from the same clutch noise as the 3 cyl. Just a little at idle. I noticed when looking at a parts diagram of the 4 cyl crank that there are rubber absorbers inside the driven reduction gear Could that be the reason the 4 cyl has a quiet clutch? I am not sure how yamaha could get somthing like that on the 3 cyl. The kit they gave me for my rage was 3 new buttons and o rings for the primary but it only helped at idle a little not at higher RPM. Thinking I might switch to the Attak next year. Just dont want to listen to all that racket.

What the clutch fix did for me is it took out all the loud clank. I still have a rattle but it is not all that bad.

I agree its not all that bad...but if you ever heard the 660 cat turbo you would really want your engine compartment to be that quiet.....its REALLY quiet cant hardly hear it running! quietest sled I've ever heard.....or almost not heard...lol. but it wont run like our sleds either...so its a good trade off!
