Anyone had problems with th A-arm ball joint bushings getting pounded out? Just curious, trying to stay ahead. :4STroke:

I am poking 1600 in the eye and haveabout 1/16" of vertical play in the lower ball joint. Any help appreciated.

benny,

Please take the time to fill out your location in your profile, site rules.

Thanks!

Deffinetly make sure your dealer is aware of the problem and reports it to Yamaha.

I just noticed tonight that at least one of my ball joints was surprisingly loose (left side). I've got to assume the other side was just as loose. With all the other front end issues that have been floating around the past two weeks, I'm getting fricking paranoid about the front end of the sled. Seems like it is under built like the old Suzuki LT 250R Quadracers. You know, the original hi-performance quad that came out in 1985!

Hey, Akrider I bought the first LT-250r that came to Alaska! I think I finally retired the ol girl after it's 7 piston! Only the last one was premature! I went through a bunch of sets of tires, gears and chains. MANY miles on that wheeler! Over all in stock trim that 250 was a much better wheeler than the 87 LT-500r I bought two years later! Quadzilla was fun once the aftermarket fixed Suzuki's issues..... Chain tension, head bolds under sized, water pump, etc etc. The low end torque was really fun and completely worth most of the head aches! It was making real close to 60hp when all was said and done....
Some 18 or so years later I walk into a Yamaha shop and buy a 05 YFZ-450 as it was getting preped I'm talking to a 20 year old shop hand asking how the 4 stroke 450 would compare to my last high performance 4 wheeler called 'Quadzilla'. He replies with "Oh Dude, This 450 would CRUSH that old thing!" ....I was like WOW this ought to be real fun then! 3 days later I return to the shop and look this 'kid' up. When I see him he walks up to me and asks 'What do you think pretty bad 4 wheeler huh!" I smiled at him and said (mocking him) Dude! The next times some 40 year old man comes in here and asks how a YFZ-450 compares to a 500cc 2 stroke called Quadzilla you better tell him: he's going to be disapointed with the horsepower of a 450!" The look on his face was priceless! I then asked him IF he had ever ridden that old wheeler (he had not!) I did clear some things up by saying Yes the YFZ rides better, jumps better, brakes and turns better but in acceleration it's NOT close! Something like 35hp vs 60hp (48-50 hp stock) And I think weight was within 25 pounds (stock)

sorry a little trip down memory lane....Ok we can get back on track!

Too bad you couldnt have let the kid ride the 500!I have seen many guys tremble after a ride on one of those.Even kicking them over took a nack!
