I just bought a battery tender for my sled. I have three questions. 1. Can I charge the battery using the leads that are right under the hood? 2. If not, can I leave the battery connected in the sled. 3. Or should I take the battery out and charge it. I am going to run my sled 15 minutes every month until the snow flies, so I need accessability.

The leads are supose to take a boost from another source which actually creates a bigger draw than a tender. So it should be OK to use the leads for the tender. If you are going to start your machine every month then you are fine but if you do not start it then you should remove the battery. You could start the machine without the filter as long as you are a clean environment. So if you remove the battery and then want to start every once in a while then you could just hook the battery up, start without the filters and then remove the battery when finished.

Don't worry about removing the battery just put the tender on it occasionaly. Starting once a month won't hurt just let it come up to full temp. before you shut it back down. Yes the jumper leads are fine to use for charging.

Battery

I know these are our babies, but don't believe there is anything revolutionary about an engine, and a battery. Treat it like you would any other vehicle. Take the battery out, and put a charger on it once in a while. Put the sled away, until you need it, or want to work on it.

I dont believe in starting a sled in the summer. The only advantage to this is that you circulate the fuel in the float bowls and this might help keep the fuel from going bad and gunking up the carbs. By starting your engine and letting it warm up and than cool down it will collect condensation(water) and that is never good. Take the battery out and charge it acouple of times this summer, just treat the fuel and fog the motor and tuck it in for the summer( yes you can give it a little kiss if you like but dont let any one see you ) Just my opinion but it makes sense to me.

Agreed thats why i said it won't hurt to be started. It is not necessary, but many just want to hear the sound of great winter memories. mine just get a good dose of stabilizer then put in the pole barn. Sometimes they get started sometimes not. :D

grass draging keeps the carbs clean if u use good filters

Even if u dont race in summer,it wont hurt anything to run her up on stand once and a while,it also keeps clutches clean plus carbs and helps u know if it does need a charge or not. :p
