Battery Voltage while sitting?

Hey guys,

I left my key in the "on" position by mistake. I measured the voltage and I was down to about 11.5 Volts. I put the Optimate on the sled and let it sit. Now it's reading about 12.4 V.

What should the voltage of a fully charged battery be assuming it's just sitting in the garage? (sled not running)

The actual voltage should be 12.6 volts, but there is usually a small amount of error when reading the voltage. It sounds like yours is fine. With the sled running and charging, it should be 14+ volts.

I read your thread twice and figured that as well. I was just hoping that no damage was done.

The reason I questioned it was that for some reason I thought that my 2003 RX1 read much higher but realized after reading your thread that it must have read higher while idling.

Glad you found your problem.

Thanks.
