Seems like my battery for my 04 Warrior won't recharge....was wondering what the best replacement is to save weight and still have cold starting capabilities

there is a aftermarket replacement availible from yamaha that shaves a few pounds from your sled. lots of guys on here running them and they have posted the part # in the past. it only has one difference from the oem, cranking reserve is not as long as the stocker. most guys i have read do not have problems at temps of -40c/f with the sled sitting out overnight.

lots of threads to read if you want to. i am goung aftermarket with mine when i have to change it.

Thanks..searched...looks like the Yuasa

When I got a replacement battery from the dealer it was a Yuasa YTX20L-BS. 2 seasons so far and still good. I leave it out of the sled and in my dry cool basement for the summer and then put it on a trickle charger before the season starts. It was at 65% when I plugged it in after sitting untouched for 3 months, charged and then left for another 3 months.

Have you tried charging it with OPTIMATE III, pull it out of the sled and hook it up its worth a try I re-cooped a couple in the past it can take a few days for the OPTIMATE to do its job...

I went to start it for the first time and the battery was weak, I charged it, started it repeatedly, first turn every time...I have had the gas tank out a bunch doing some mods on the exhaust, came out the next day, pulled the tank again, put it back in and the battery was completely dead...key was off, put the jumpers on, it would weakly, weakly turn the crank, no headlight and it won't seem to charge...I am assuming the battery, never touched it since I pulled it out of the dealer in '04..was thinking I pinched something the last time the tank came out, it shows fully charged on the battery charger

You have a five year old battery! Just buy the stocker. It has served you well! You won't feel a couple pounds diff, When its 20 below and your sled is the only one that won't start, you will have wished for more POWER! not less weight.

For what it's worth...I have a 1999 Honda Magna motorcycle that has the original battery. Last fall (07) the battery went dead on me. I'd have to repeatedly pop the clutch to get it started.

Anyway, I ended up purchasing an Optimate III battery charger/trickle charger. Needless to say, one charge is all it took. I leave the bike outside under a cover and even w/ cold weather, it fires up first push of the button.

From what it sounds like, your battery could be sulphated. The Optimate III has a unique feature in that it will de-sulphate sulphated batteries. Sulphated batteries will not hold a charge.

My advice is instead of purchasing a whole new battery, give the Optimate III charger a try. Worst case scenario is that you find the battery is no good and you have a charger on hand. Just my $0.02!

I have the relocated AGM battery. Same one for the R1 streetbike.
Has never let me down, no matter how cold it is.

Is also much easier to get to everything below the airbox, especially the oil filter.

Just do NOT use the UPS battery, it is worthless.
