Be Careful!

I shudder to think how this would have turned out if he'd been riding alone.

I watched that video a couple times because at first, it seemed to me like there were two sleds that rolled, and I couldn't figure out where the second sled came from ... I guess it's just the way the camera follows the rider in one direction, and then you see that rider fall off his sled as it rolls, but then the camera turns away from this and you hear and see what appears to be (to me anyway) another sled and rider stuck underneath it. It was only after I played the video through a second time that I realized it was the same sled and rider.

The bigger point, as Tom mentioned, is use a tether. Scary situation for sure. Think about how remote they probably were when this happened, what sort of first aid they could offer to that rider, and what they would have needed to do in order to get him medical attention. I know (hope) you mountain guys are all using tethers, but how many trail riders actually use them?

well if he was riding alone, we wouldn't have video of it.

Not sure if your being a smart*ss or just an *ss. But watching this was bad enough and I'd rather not watch a video of someone dying anyways.

I agree... this is really not a great VID to be posted. Kind of morbid if you ask me.

Think about it, every activity we undertake has some risk, some higher than others.

Anything can happen at any time. A tree could fall on the safest flatland trail rider. A stump could lurk unseen under the snow for a mountain rider to find. A river crossing could let go due to low or high water.

You have to accept the risk and accept responsibility for the outcome or don't take part. Anything less is irresponsible.

Well i did warn everyone...

I think it's still important to remind others (myself included) of the very real danger that exists, as well as how they can be prevented (sometimes) by taking certain precautions.

agreed /\ /\ It is not something that you ever wanna see but some times we all need a reminder of what could be....
