I agree its a bit of a battle to get that movable sheave (side) of the secondary to move at first. I find two hands which is hard to do at first because the belt is at the top but it get easier on the second step. 1st step is two hands to turn and push back the moveable side (even if its only a little bit, then hold open with one hand and quickly pull up on the belt to wedge it in the between the two sides at the bottom of the two sheaves of the secondary. 2nd step now you have good hand advantage to repeat step 1 but since you can get a good grip with both hands on the moveable sheave since the belt has moved into the gap of the secondary sheaves. Once you pull up hard on the belt in this second time I'm sure it will be wedged up far enough that it holds open the sheaves and you now have enough slack to roll it off of the secondary starting at the top and working towards the back and down towards the bottom.
Once you do it once it becomes much easier to do the second time since you know it will work.
I like skidoos options. They give a little wrench that has a machine thread screw that pushes the moveable sheave back making the process much easier than fighting to get that starting grip.
In step one I found it easier to rotate the moveable sheave first then to push straight on with a bit of back and forth motion to get it moving.
Good luck. It's worth while to do one in a controled state like the garage so you know you'll be able to do it on the trail. Just a confidence thing.
