07 Vector Mtn. Original belt didn't squeel at idle. New yamaha 8DN belt squeeled at idle. Switched to a Dayco which didn't squeel at idle but blew it in about 200 miles. Put my other new yamaha belt on to break it in today and it squeels at idle too. What is the issue?

you might have to remove the shim(s) on the 3 8mm bolts (i think) on the backside of your secondary... if you pull off your secondary you will see the bolts. they have a washer there, take that washer out. the washers come in 1mm thickness or 1/2 mm thickness for adjusting belt tightness or deflection...

The belt should stop squeeling once its used a while. If you wash your new belt in hot soapy water it usually takes care of the squeel also.

Step 1: remove the shims, if any

Step 2: If still squeelly, replace the 3 bolts. They shorten quite a bit from the tip. This should be replaced once in a while anyway. The messed up tips will damage you aluminium threads on the clutch if you wait too long.

Step 3: Still noisy ? Must have a out of SPEC or other brand belt ?? anyway, after you make sure all is good on the belt alingment/clutch distance tool, you can reverse or change the landing ring (where the 3 spacing bolts touches), and yes, you must take the secondary apart.

Don't let this annoying noise go by itself, it may never will, and peoples look at the 'junk' meanwhile.

I agree with the "sqeal won't go away". All you're going to do is glaze over the belt and if you do that you might as well save it for emergencies cuz the belt will never be the same again (talking from experience).

The weird thing is is it is just the Yamaha belts that do it. The dayco belt didn't make any noise. I will be going out of town for a couple of weeks but will get to more investigating when I get back.

THe Yami belt is extremely "hard" vs the softer Dayco belt. Local shop won't sell a Dayco for a Yami because the don't hold up for whatever reason.

That is what I heard from hartman inc. I think i tshould hold up longer than 200 miles. Although $10 for a 1 year warranty belt that I can feel performes ALOT better than the 8DN maybe worth it. I will try both once I get the new gearing in the Vector

If you get the Carlisle #138-4432U3, all your troubles will go away. Guaranteed. This is what Hartman recommends. It really works. That 8DN belt is extranious to your Yamaha. Mike Edev, Vt.
