Im putting a 02 zr c/c skid in my 03 rx-1. is bending the rails necessary? I tryed and heated to much and now I have to bur another rail. how much heat and how much a$$ is involved. I d perfer not to try again but if I have to I will.

You can't just apply heat - in the presence of oxygen, aluminum will burn at a temperature lower than its melting point. You need to apply an inert mask, like helium or argon when you heat in order to protect it against oxidation.

If your objective is to bend, set up a form for the new angle, apply force, then apply enough heat for the force to bend it.
