I'm 180 pounds and it's exactly what I would like to put 23/39... I think it's a good ratio for groomed trail...
Thanks!!!

Too high unless you are adding HP via exhaust, intake, etc. Go with 22/39 or keep stock chain and go 22/38.

22/38 is almost the same ratio than 23/39 and if I can keep my stock chain, it's less expensive, so good idea too.....
21/39 = 1.86 stock
23/39 = 1.70 ratio
22/38 = 1.73 ratio

I'm not adding HP but I will run with a Camoplast 121 X 14 X 1'' track.... it's almost like adding HP....

20/39 Ratio 1.95 I guess this is only for bigger lug tracks.
Like we have heard before, better gains with clutching but going up a gear should be a plus for stock or less track.

i put a 22 on mine........I like it, but would agree with Mr Ulmer. I didn't test as many clutch and gearing set ups as he did last rear but using my own sled as guage I would say 22/38 would be about as much as it can pull and still be fun on the trail.

Going down w stock chain
Hi!
How far down could I gear w the stock chain? 20/39? Lower? What is the limit without replacing the chain?
FYI Going long+widetrack.

You need a new chain going down 1 gear on top. Nytro has no top end torque(torque really falls of huge as rpm,s get higher) so it works better with lower gearing

What is the ratio with horse power? Is it a certain amount of change per so much extra power? I am sure it is based upon the type of riding you do also. But just for a nice mix. Mostly trai, some ditch banging, and a little bit of ice. Lets say for conversation.
According to the servicemanual you can go as low as 18/39 using the stock chain with 68 links.Turk said:You need a new chain going down 1 gear on top. Nytro has no top end torque(torque really falls of huge as rpm,s get higher) so it works better with lower gearing
Edit: I just realised that you are referring to gear ratio, then i guess it would be as high as 18/39 ratio 2.17
