BEST SKID?

There is a lot of discussion about which skid to go with. M-10, Expert, or Mono. Do a search, there really is no way to tell which is the best, it depends completely on riding style.

I have my m-10 and love it, still haven't dialed in yet but all the bumps that you used to feel, are gone and only the big ones left... and I still haven't bottomed it out no matter how hard i try... lots of adjustment yet. Some complain about the m-10's weight transfer, i think it's just right. Enough transfer to get traction and lift the skis about an inch or two and not so much that you stand right up like the Expert X (sometimes i wish i had the expert for this reason). The ONLY complaint i have about the M-10 is it's weight sensitive, you add a passenger and the rear end just sinks. On the other hand... it gives you an excuse not to take a passenger. The weight sensitivity is by design. It uses a decelerating shock rate. This is to help utilize more travel at all speeds. It's a very plush ride yet the skid will ride great when riding aggressively.

Like I said before do a search and just think about which is right for you. There have to be a million posts about which skid is for who.

skid

Thanks fro the info man.So what sled are you running the skid in?And how is the m10 for jumping?

Huh... you got a guy with a shorty advising you about mountain skids. He missed all the true mountain skids, like ekholm, mountain addiction, etc. M10's have a steep approach angle and generally tend to trench in any depth of soft snow.

And FYI about ExpertX... the transfer is fully adjustable with the turn of a knob (about a 15 second job with NO tools needed) to the point where it will handle like a bulldozer. I keep mine at max though 'cause its more fun that way. Downside to ExpertX for mountain riders is that its built heavy. Flip of the coin though, the UPside to ExpertX for turbo riders is that its built heavy.

skid

Thanks for the info .But does the expert x come in a 162 skid? And i thougth the new m10w2 had a less steep aproach angle?
thanks fro the info guys keep it coming

Seems like the mountain sled shops in Ab/BC use the M-10 in most of there sleds, eg. Specialty Sleds, Racers Edge, CR Racing. Have you seen a Ekholm in a mountain sled, horriable approach angle, fall apart alot. I know I have worked on too many of that pos skid. Every boosted yami that I seen with the M-10 works awesome, something that finally keeps the skies on snow. Not 3 ft in the air, going up a very steep hill is not good. Suppose to be a place in Sicamous that sells them. But there is no skid that is going to fit the bill for all types of terrain or snow. You will just to deside on what will be the best for you and what type of riding you will be doing the most. FYI Specialty Sleds could set you up with a $6600 cdn skid.

skid

Wicked red thanks for the info. But 6600 kinda scares me for a price tag lol.I kinda want a good all around skid cause i still like to jump and boon dock my turbo so well see.Do you know what the name is of the company in scamous? What skid are you running red?
keep it coming guys

skid

Ya i totaly understand.I have a friend who had the ekhom skid in his apex and he took it out because it was so rough and it bent his tunnel up .. but well see theres lots of options

I hear you about the #$%&* ride from the ekholm. If Larry had any quailty control with his product it might be a good skid. I still have the crappy 03 skid, minus the transfer rods, and wheels, got it down to a whopping 65lbs, stock was 76lbs. It rides okay, but the skies are in the air all the time. Still not sure what to do with it. Buddy has CM old sled, with the holz skid, about 15lbs lighter, but skies in the air too. I heard Darko say that sometimes the M-10 was a bear to handle in the trees, but hill climbing was great. Likely best to pm about it. But in the long run, the stock skid is going to the best for everyday riding and not fixing/screwing around with it. And you don't need to spend more money since it came with the sled. Could pm Climbmax, he rode just about everything for the last 15 years with power in your area.

sled

Thanks for the info red i will pm both of those guys and see what they think.I think the m10 would be better if it had tipped rails then it would steer easier. but well see. Keep your guys opionss coming link what about the holtz kits and the k mod?

here is a vid of my trx with an ekholm under it at 14 lbs boost and a shot of nos, the ski,s don,t go in the air even through the narrow part were it is vertical, I have ran this suspension for 5 or 6 years first on my 983 price in a mm, and the last two years in my trx, I switch it to what ever sled I am biulding because it works so good in the mountains, maybe I got a good one but I have never had a problem with it, I did rebiuld the elka shocks last year and replaced some bushings but thats to be expected after that many years of abuse. you can adjust the transfer as much as you want either way. I can,t get the vid to come up. its in the four stroke turbo section under climbing narrow chute vid.

skid

Thanks snowy for the info.So have you jumped your skid? And hows it do on the rough trail?
thanks alot

I don,t jump only when I have to, it handles the trail better than the stock suspension, I don,t think its the best suspension for the rough trails, but it works really well climbing the hill most of my riding is boonedocking and hill climbing and thats were it works good.
