best speed

A friend of mine had a brand new '07 Attak GT in that year and saw 128mph across Lake Gogebic in Michigan......passed me like I was walking. It was bone stock, no clutching or anything.

In fact it's my avatar photo....I took that of him in Michigan.

The best I saw on my 07 attak was 129 on the dream meter completely stock. As close as I can tell that was arond 112-114 mph. That was on bare ice with an inch of fluff with a tail wind.

127.6 mph on radar and 142mph on speedo in 3000' with brake rotor digging into the saddle and exhaust donuts gone. supercharged since and run mid 130's in 1/4 mile.

194 KPH = 121 MPH. [194 X .626] Dream Meter.
121 MPH dream meter is about 107 ish real MPH. Respectable for an older style Apex.

117 MPH GPS on an Attak is wicked fast as is 116 MPH GPS on an Apex GT. The gods & or wind need to be with you to knock off those #'s unless one has done a lot of tweaking.
You got that right, conditions have to be absolutely perfect! I was running down a long stretch of ice road at that time, jump off the ice road to hard packed trail & you can lose 10mph instantly!! The 120mph gps in one inch of snow I would have to see it to believe it as a buddy of mine has a 2012 XTX & he is no faster than me & there is no way in hell I am gonna pull 120 real speed in snow, lol!!;)!

Haven't seen any sled pull 120mph in snow yet without $$ mods. Your buds XTX should be kicking your a$$. My 12 will... LOL
The 120mph in one inch of snow I was quoting off your post that you quoted from the madrussion. I take it that even though there was no boost, it was still a modded sled then? Your right, according to your earlier post your 2011 at 118mph will kick my #*$&@ by 1 mph, lmao! The 2012 have the same hp ;)!

My 11 had some minor clutching and extra suspension wheels. From what I've seen around here the XTX's are faster on top.

Speed

Curious to know what type of carbide runner you guys are running to get these speeds??? My 2013 apex stock with 103 studs saw 117 mph in Michigan the other day on a hard packed icy road with 6" stud boy deuce bars it was approx. 2/10 of a mile and I still had some left. idk what the error is on the speedo though.

Best I saw on dreamometer was 194 Km/H which is 121MPH roughly. GPS at that speed was showing 184 km/h which is 114MPH I have been able to get that consistently since. This was on paved road with 1-2 inches of fresh snow. Recently keep seeing 185 km/h on the speedometer on fresh groom trail.

I saw 127mph on the dream meter this past week on my 06 Apex GT, that was on a snow covered road. I'm thinking it was closer to 110ish actual speed?

re

I was talking to Ulmer he said the newer apexes are within 3 mph accuracy to the speedo. I am putting on my tuner skis with 6" just hoping they don't cut my speed as compared to the stud boy deuce 6".

Last year on a nicely packed trail my speedometer was bouncing between 121-122 or 122-123 mph, not 100 % sure which one. So gps speed that is around 107 mph? Those lumps in my shorts tells me it seemed a lot faster than that, lol, and I only held it there for a second or two. I have a 07 apex er, only mod out of the box is Woodys dually carbides.

That is exactly what I was going to post. I am not sure what year they corrected the "optimistic speedometers" but you are right. The older Apex's are about 10% "optimistic" and the newer ones are very close to accurate. Interestingly, the older Apex's have "optimistic" speedometers but accurate odometers which to me proves that Yamaha purposely programmed them this way to make people think that they are faster than they really are.

I picked up my new to me , completely stock but studded, Attak last spring.
In late spring, with the ice up and perfectly flat and low drag conditions, the sled ran 117mph on speedo which was 103mph on my GPS. My 144" 2002 SRX ran 107mph on GPS the same day.

I have done a few changes over the summer and also removed 2 teeth from speedo drive. I have not had a chance to check top speed yet, since the changes, but I have seen just under 100mph on adjusted speedo so far on short bursts.

Two teeth off the speedo sensor toothed "gear" will reduce the displayed speed by 13.3% (2 teeth out of 15) which is about what yours needed based on your findings (117 indicated = 103 actual) which is 12% fast.

Yes...that's why I took two teeth instead of just one...should be much closer.
