Is a heated shield needed with the BV2S? Any fogging without one?

Not at all. Good to -20°F easy.

full face, i always had good luck with HJC helmets. i have a CSR1 with a heated shield and liked it. i have been wearing Oneal MX style helmets lately, i prefer teh open face with goggle setup better unless it gets -10 or colder

only time i have wished for a heated shield on the bv2s is in freezing rain have been useing this helmet exclusively for the last 4 years put on prolly 15000 miles with it and i still love it ready for a new one starting to get a little wind noise in it. will prolly get the heated shield this time around because i dont let weather get in the way of riding and rode in FR twice this year and do most years it seems and then i can just plug in on those days.

I replaced my shield after 3 seasons with a heated one on my BV2S but only because it was scratched. The original never fogged, but frosted around the edges on really cold rides. (-25C or more) So I went with the electric shield this time, but have not had to plug it in yet this season. As for best helmet, this is the best I've ever owned, but everybody's head is different, it's what ever fits you best. I like the look of the Modular 2 but it does not fit as comfortably on my melon. Both are made with the most lateral visibility I have found in any helmet, that to me means no stiff neck from having to look around like an owl to see around a blind corner on the trail. As I get older, these things start to matter a lot more. For me, BV2S + contacts = riding heaven

This post couldn't have come at a better time. With all the cold (-32c) weather riding I have done this year even the electric sheild on my HJC would fog up. Not to mention all the problems I have had with visor cords in these temps also. My riding buddy has the BV2S and has not had any fogging issues and he doesn't even have the heated sheild. Needless to say I am impressed with it. The BV2S with electric sheild will be my helmet of choice next year. It will also be nice not to be tethered to the sled.

The Ski-Doo Modular 2 has been fantastic for me, no fogging, no heated shield and a crazy wide field of view. Haven't been out in rain though. I am on/off the sled too much for a cord (4 kids, you know the deal)
Not as custom fit as the BV2S, but everything has a price point.

FXR open face helmet with 509 aviators no fogging. Not a fan of a cord, bought the modular 2 but cannot close the face shield and its 1 size larger lol, but my wife loves the helmet. I like the open face visor. I run the amber lens works well in low light conditions.

Size wise, do the BV2S run small or bigger than others?
BV2S seems to run average to maybe slightly snug. Not sure I'd buy one w/out trying it on first though (this is true with any helmet due to different head shapes).
BV2S is a fantastic trail helmet. If you get off trail on a warmer day it will make you sweat though. I've had one issue with freezing rain, and I"m not sure a heated shield would've helped, and I've had freezing fog on the inside on a few really cold nights, it is a slow accumulation starting at the edges that slowly works inward. Probably have the mask too loose or too tight or something, but it is a very rare issue. Would not go back to a regular helmet again.

Get a new TXI helmet I have had two of them because of the age of the helmet once and to replace one because I spider cracked the jaw of the helmet in a big crash I was glad I had a full face helmet on not no junk modular helmet.

No question, BV2S, never fogs and the visibility is outstanding!! Couldn't boot my HJC far enough away after the first ride with the BV2S!
