Running a Garmin with VV Mapping and powering it off the 12v outlet on my 2011 Nytro XTX. Problem is a few bumps and the male plug vibrates loose and the Garmin shuts down. Constantly reaching aft and pushing the plug back in. Hardwired the Garmin on my KTM but the inline voltage regulator (reduces voltage to that required by the Garmin) didn't tolerated the abuse and when I took it apart the copper coil had broken loose. Garmin is a Nuvi 500.
Looking for advice.

Garmin sells a hard wire plug. I took apart a 12v Garmin accessory outlet adapter to step the voltage down correctly and sealed it up and hard wired it to the accessory outlet circuit.

As noted, smart supply is a good way to go. Also, you can get a bare wire cable from www.mountguys.com , which will already have the power reducer.

If you get a hardwire kit two things. Make sure it has the 90 plug on the and and take apart the step down and fill it with electronics safe silicon. It should survive the vibrations a lot longer that way.

as mentioned, talk to the Rockmeister and get the smart supply!!
its the best way to go, and you will also have other options to use, charge phone , heated visor shield ect.
