This is how it happened to me twice. You start your sled and run it just long enough to get the low temp light to go out. You shut it down and go get dressed or whatever for 10 minuites or so. When you come back and start it up it will be up to temp enough for the low temp light not to come on but the oil has drained back into the crankcase just enough for the low oil light to come on. If you stop and check the oil at this point it will read low on the stick, But if you ride for 10 min or so it will balance out the level in the tank and the crankcase and then if you check the level it will be ok. What happened to me the first time I got a false low level is I immediatly stopped and checked my level it was low so I added 1/2 qt later in the day I found my breather was pushing out a little oil in the air box BECAUSE I WAS OVER FULL. I believe that the low oil sensor is made to ignor low level untill the engine is up to a min operating temp.

Think about this guys............Whadda you think??

I think you are right.
I've noticed this too, but mine has only dropped a little bit when checking after a cold start (never enough to have the light come on). After driving a little way and re-checking, it's always back on the full mark.
I guess this is why the manual says to only check the oil after actually operating the sled..... and I guess that's why you should read the book first!
