I noticed a lot of guys are running the low black windshield that is similar to the chrome one. I went to my dealer and the one they have isn't as low or aggressive looking as the chrome one. Are people just painting them? Or is this something that's not Yamaha?

Ya that's kinda what it looked like. I have a chrome one and love how it's flaired out, but don't want to paint it if it's gonna look like garbage.

You need to start with a clear shield and paint the back side not the front. I think if you painted the front it would look like garbage in no time. The red Attak in the middle was clear and was painted on the back side. We used a special paint for plastic that is a little bit flexible. The blue and black Attaks have black windshields we bought from Yamaha (factory painted them on the back side).

Mine isn't low but still painted.
I swapped the stock low RTX to the next size up in black. Still looks good, a little more protection and the hand guards still work. Port Yamaha is where i got it $65 +/-

Painting the backside is easy to do with the right paint. We added vinyl, blue and finally silver to give it a metallic look on my phazer. I think it turned out good. Next time I will color match it a bit better.
Shop for a used shield on Ebay and take a crack at it. The cool part is you can have small scuffs and scratches that will not show up once it is painted.
Good luck!
