yeah he said he found a satin clear coat that he used. The pics don't do it justice, it looks really good in person.
The black ops decals are in the mail so I think it will look cool when he gets those.

Revster:
Maybe a stupid question, but is the hood easy to paint by an auto shop? I was thinking along the same lines...of running a satin finish....and since my hood has a few scratches, it could benefit from a coat of paint....black on black.
Also, how did you handle the Yamaha emblem? Remove it first then paint, or mask it. Same questoin, easy to do or not.
Working on a Black sled as well, but haven't thought too much about the look yet....better get my butt in gear.

Hey OTM,
Both the owner of this sled and I painted out hoods this year. Mine was blue and his was white. We both used Krylon Fusion paint for plastic, Satin black.
My method was to sand with 400 grit, cleaned it then applied 3 light coats. I left that for over a week then sanded it with 600 grit then applied 3 more light coats. I left it for over a week and shot it with clear.
I know Jeff, (the owner of this sled) wasn't as anal as I was he sanded it the original time then applied two 3 coat shots then cleared it. I'm not sure of the time frame he used between applications.
I masked the emblems and he painted right over his. His looks really good with the satin paint over the emblem, hopefully it stays on.
I've painted a lot of plastic with Krylon Fusions and the stuff works pretty good. I've even used it on skid plates and A-arm protectors and it actually stuck really well. Like most paint job the prep work is key.
I've never bothered with an auto body quality paint job. Because I ride in the backcountry the next tree strike is just around the corner, and a $6.00 paint job is easy to replace.

Thanks Revster:
Hadn't really thought about the backcountry rescratching the paint....your approach is much better and CHEAPer than what I was thinking....
I'll try your sanding/painting suggestions.

bumper
I recently recieved a bumper like the one in the above pic and they seemed to install some gusseting behind the weak tubing. I hope it fixes the problems that everyone had with this bumper.
