I followed the directions provided with the rear heat exchanger for my '05 Vector....just not real confident that I got all the air out. For those of you that installed these, did you find the procedure that they supplied was sufficient? Or did you end up needing to bleed more air out later. Would hate to trailer up North only to turn wrenches or have overheating issues.

If you still think you have a problem, drive the sled up a hill as steep as you can find and park it while running at operating temp. SLOWLY open the coolant cap and give a little bit of throttle. If there are bubbles, they will eventually rise to the highest point in the system (which at this point is your resevoir).
Hope this helps....I have done it and it works great!

I strapped the rear bumper up high... 2-3ft off the ground. I opened the bleeder screw and ran the engine for 5 minutes. I closed the screw,, dropped the sled down and refilled the reservior.
No problems, no overheat...
You shouldn't have any issues.
Did you have to grind out some aluminum tunnel to clear the old crosstube out and the new exchanger in? I didn't get any instructions with my kit. I ended up grinding out the slot to match the casting slot on the right side of the sled. This was enough to get the parts in & out.

Yeah, You have to cut a little bit of the tunnel. BTW, do I need some kind of protector is I'm running studs?
No protector required for studs. I also bleed mine by the instructions provided, and have had no problems.
Can anyone tell me where the 2 rubber things that come on the heat exchanger go?
I do believe the rubber caps on the end are just to protect the exchanger from damage before you install.

Makes sense-I left them off because I didn't see where they should go, or what purpose they would serve.

I got the rear heat exchanger for my Vector at the dealer. After complaining about my sled overheating last year, they sold me the rear exchanger at yamaha cost ($42) but charged for installation. Total bill was around $100 for them to do it.
That is a pretty good deal for an installed price.bluecheese said:I got the rear heat exchanger for my Vector at the dealer.
