2006 Apex ER with nearly 6500 miles. Only rode 500 miles last year and 30 so far this year due to poor snow conditions. This weekend, I put 35 miles and started hearing a strange sound, almost like a grinding or rattle sound near the left front side. Checked belt and discovered it peeling apart. I have never blown a belt on this sled and have changed it every other year. I put the new belt on and all was good however I could still hear the strange grinding sound at low speeds. Quit riding for the day and put it on the stand. I cannot hear the sound while on the stand and both the driveshaft and jackshaft bearings are good. Any ideas on what the grinding sound could be?

How did you determine that the drive shaft and jack shaft bearings are good.
Ive always greased both every season following instructions from this site. This year, I replaced the driveshaft just for a piece of mind. After running it on the stand, i pulled the secondary and checked the jack bearing. Looks good, well greased.

Make sure the threaded collar and tapered bushing on the backside of the jackshaft bearing did not or is not coming loose.
Just because the bearings are greased every year does not mean they still might not be bad. Checking them by hand is one thing and under load while the sled is moving are 2 different things.

OK Thanks. I will check that. Is this bearing easy to change, can you change it without pulling the shaft out?

In the FAQ's there might be info for you on changing it. Also in the Tech article section there is more.
One of those has how to change the jackshaft and drive shaft bearings.

That's where I was going with my question
