Just put the rear skid back together after Half-Baked Beef-Up. Now that I have the skid back in the sled it seems as though the shock may be blown. I only get 2 clicks on the rebound dial and the sled seems to sit quite low. Didn't notice any oil on the shaft, can this be the wire or solenoid? Can a shop repair it cheaply, that will last. Or am I stuck needing a new shock?

Yea....sounds like it is in need of a rebuild. Same thing happened to mine last season.

When it happened to me, I called Hygear Suspension (they did a rebuild the season before) to ask them about why I was only getting a couple clicks on the compression adj knob and they said I should rebuild immediately and recommended not to ride it. They said it was the needle inside the shock or something.

I said...ehhhhhh, I can squeeze one more trip out of it before I remove and send out for rebuild. Wrong! Shock ended up busting (catastrophic failure) and I had to totally replace. $100 rebuild versus buying a new very expensive Ohlins shock....you do the math. haha

yup what he said

Yes if it dont click she will need a rebuild... spoke with Hygear about that at Novi... " If few to no click, rebuild shock"

Had mine blow apart on the trail 2 winters ago. Cost $300.00 to fix as most was salvageable.
I should have rebuilt it the year it blew when I also noticed that the clicker was not working properly.
When the Yamaha mechanic rebuilt the shock, I mentioned my riding style (fairly aggressive) and he also updated the shock valving, what a huge difference. Much more adjust ability and I have not bottomed it since.

Its off to Hygear. AMF's website clearly shows they know Ohlîns but the guy I spoke with just didn't give me the right vibe.

Oh, I think the valving is soft so I stated my weight on the heavy side. I've never ridden my 06 or 07 GTs on anything other that max shock setting. 3/4 or less was too soft for me.

Thanks for the replies. I just hate having to install the skid again.

Shouldn't have to remove the skid to remo/re-install the shock. I leave my skid in.

I had mine done last time by Hygear, was very happy. Also had it done the first time around by Pioneer. Was happier with the results from Hygear.

Many members swear by the Ohlins work of Brian Jowett (bjowett on TY). I think I got the name right.

Many have used Carver Performance in Minnesota for rebuilds. They supposedly know Ohlins real well.

So, there are lots of reputable choices.

Ya, carver and bjowett are both really good. I've had several rebuilds done by both guts and they are both really good. Bjowett knows European bump valving really well as a bonus. And of course, Mike Carver was Robby Malinowski's crew chief on his Nytro a few years back. They are both really knowledgeable guys.

Its already shipped. I figured I could take the shock out with the skid in but it will be easier to zip tie the wire up this way and gives me a chance to change those overpriced bushings that I didn't do before. I had the shock on my 06 first done by Pioneer and it rode better. Then I blew up badly so I am trying Hygear. Next time it blows I am probably ditching the EC. Dealer installed emergency KYB in sled during time the EC was out to be rebuilt and I was totally fine without the EC.
