My first ride out this winter I noticed right away that my shock needed a rebuild. Found a guy locally who could do it, but he was going out of town for a week, so I put off disassembly until last night. Well, apparently with the seal gone moister was able to get in the shock, and it froze up, busting the shock body. I've got some pictures, but for whatever reason my phone doesn't want to send them.

Anyway, now I need a new shock, and I don't plan on spending $700 for a replacement. Any suggestions on cheaper alternatives? I have found a rebuilt shock on ebay for $300, so if worse comes to worse, I'll order that.

More bad news is that I noticed I've got a cracked rail, so I guess that will give me something to do while I'm waiting for the shock to come in.

:drink:

Oh yeah, another question, does anyone know for sure what other models of Nytro's have shocks that are interchangeable with the XTX? MTX, RTX, FX?

You sound like you're living by my favorite saying this last year"always something". I had first ride trauma also, was riding in some powder on my phazer and had a buried stick shishkabob my radiator. Waiting for replacement as we speak. This would have been no problem if I would have been on my nytro. Anyway, did you check schmidt bros he sells fox shocks for rear suspension I believe. Good luck with your repairs etc. and remember "it's always something".

I just found Schmidt online. I like the price of that shock as compared to the stock one, but I wonder if I wouldn't be better off buying the rebuilt one I found on e-bay, as the Schmidt shock doesn't have a clicker.

Sorry about the multi-posting, the internet is giving me fits.

Newf, try sending LANEO a pm, he always has a ton of stuff for sale...he might be able to help you out with both problems...he's very good to deal with.

Shock rebuilder I use told me they are now using an updated shaft seal that should last longer. The trick is keeping the oil in and the water out.

There seems to be a couple of different options out there for shocks, though I haven't found anything adjustable for a decent price.

I'm also surprised that RideFX doesn't make anything for the Nytro. Though I suppose the fact that I got 4 years out of mine means that there's not alot of them getting replaced.

I have a HyGear revalved rear for a XTX for sale if you need one. Has the HI\LOW speed bottle on it. Make me an offer.

that sucks looks like thats what cracked your rail too!

anyway the rail is no biggie , find a local welder that can TIG weld.
if you were local id do it for you
